Property Description for 132 Kane Street

A most rare and unique living experience awaits you at 132 Kane Street in the heart of the Cobble Hill Historic District! This industrial townhouse on a coveted Brooklyn street corner, melds a storied past with exquisite modern living quarters. A former butcher shop and antique store in the same family for over 75 years has been completely transformed, incorporating modern amenities and industrial finishes with a nod toward historic preservation. The top-to-bottom renovation affords an unequaled standard of living and plenty of room to work from home in one of Brooklyn’s sought-after neighborhoods. Inspired by early 20th century modern French architects and designers like Le Corbusier, Robert Mallet Stevens, Pierre Chareau, and Jean Prouve, interiors of this 4-story gem with a finished basement are chic and refined. Two spacious decks (one rooftop, one 2nd level) take comfort and convenience over the top! Impeccably-designed living quarters are graced by such distinctive elements as blackened steel and factory glass, juxtaposed with luxurious materials like Carrara marble and dark washed floors. This is set against an enticing backdrop of clean white walls and warm exposed brick. An expansive open layout provides an easy flow for living, dining and entertaining. At the core is a stunning kitchen with poured concrete counters that integrate into the central freestanding concrete fireplace/chimney, anchoring a matte black Bertazoni range and hood. Also for the chef are top-of-the-line Sub-Zero fridge and wine coolers, a Bosch dishwasher, and light pouring in through the massive frosted, restored storefront windows. A bedroom suite or office with full bath, and a powder room completes level one. A sleek staircase rises to the upper stories. On the 2nd floor is a bedroom suite, rec/family room, and large concrete paver deck. Level 3 offers 2 en-suite bedrooms with substantial closets including a walk-in, and a Whirlpool washer-dryer. Radiant heat floors indulge in all stylish en-suite baths. Downstairs is a huge basement extending the living/entertaining space, featuring exposed stone walls, 10’ ceilings, and 688-bottle wine storage with a kitchenette and tasting area. Have the ultimate outdoor enjoyment on the fabulous roof deck spanning the building’s length and width, showcasing panoramic views of Brooklyn and lower Manhattan. Perfectly located near the 4, 5, F and R subway lines, BQE, Smith Street, cafes, restaurants and shops! Also available is the opportunity to have the home delivered with a fully stocked wine cellar, with some of the world's most sought-after vintages, curated by sommelier Jesse Warner-Levine. Price upon request.

Cobble Hill | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

The neighborhood now known as Cobble Hill was originally settled by Dutch farmers in the mid-1600s. Tucked along the East River, in the heart of Brooklyn, Cobble Hill is known for its welcoming, leafy streets, independent mom-and-pop shops, and 19th century brownstones.

Most of Cobble Hill lies within an historic landmark district, and building heights are restricted to 50 feet, which helps maintain its 19th century atmosphere. Building owners will often split the use of their four- or five-story buildings, occupying several of the top floors and renting out the ground floor as apartments or, conversely, occupying one or more of the lower floors and renting out the top floors. New construction and alterations to existing buildings in the historic district require approval by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission, which helps maintain the historic character of the Cobble Hill neighborhood.

Although most housing in Cobble Hill consists of traditional brownstones and brick townhouses,, you will also find churches that have been converted to condos, carriage houses that have become luxury apartments and Victorian school houses that have been converted into lofts.

Court Street and Atlantic Avenue are the main commercial streets in the neighborhood. You will find popular Middle Eastern restaurants on Atlantic Avenue. Court Street is home to casual restaurants, many with outdoor seating, relaxed cafes and hip bars.

Many young professionals and families live in the brownstones, townhouses, and single-family homes that line the leafy streets. Cobble Hill is a great place to live if you work on Wall Street, as you can walk over the Brooklyn Bridge to work.
