Property Description for 178 Stuyvesant Ave

Situated on "Do the Right Thing Way" with four stories measuring over 18' feet wide and 45' deep, complete with a three-family certificate of occupancy and super low taxes, this classic Neo-Grec brownstone at 178 Stuyvesant offers multiple possibilities! Currently configured as two floor-through apartments on the upper floors (one 2-bedroom and one 3-bedroom) and a lower three-bedroom garden/parlor duplex, this brownstone could be a wonderful home with rental income, an investment property, or the perfect place to create your dream house. As-is, each unit is turn-key and ready for tenants. Throughout the house you'll find hardwood floors, exposed brick, several fireplace hearths as well as original plaster. The bathrooms have been updated with modern finishes and fixtures including new vanities and "rain" showerheads. The closets are finished with Elfa systems, and the kitchens all offer great counter and workspace. On the garden level you'll find the open living/dining space leading into the kitchen. Access to the large backyard can be found on this floor. The parlor floor, the top floor of the duplex, features three bedrooms and a full bath. The second-floor apartment has two bedrooms in front with a large kitchen and living area in back, overlooking the garden below. The top floor has three-bedrooms, a center kitchen and a charming living area. Situated on lovely Stuyvesant Avenue, between Quincy and Lewis, you will be in good townhouse company. Less than 10 minutes stroll to the cocktails at Mama Fox or the pizzas at Saraghina (go early and beat the crowds ??) and the entire Bed-Stuy scene. You've heard about the bidding wars and the shenanigans in the townhouse market--this one is sensibly priced and good to go. Come and get it!

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
