Property Description for 819 Prospect Place, Mansion

Offered: Your own 4000 square foot estate in Brooklyn; a private, serene and elegantly restored stand alone mansion with enormous 1485 sqft backyard and 200 square foot covered porch. Over 5685 square feet of personal space.

Make and appointment or bring your broker to see this one of a kind home designed by prolific architect Axel Hedman built circa 1907. This house boasts original details throughout with hand carved moldings and railings. Upon entering the parlor level, there is a sitting room embellished with Mahogany wood columns and Maple wood floors. South facing views warm up the living room with natural light during the day. Oak pocket doors open up into the dining room with 9 foot vaulted ceilings. An eat-in kitchen was renovated and built as an extension from the dining room, leading to the enormous backyard. House features fireplaces on every floor. The house has been painstakingly restored, renewed and updated with new kitchens and bathrooms. You'll find stainless steel appliances and stone countertops in the kitchens.

Behind the house is an enormous private backyard with a beautiful shade tree. The back yard measures 33 by 45, or over 1485 square feet.

The House has a wonderful feel and flow and is uniquely well suited for co-living with other family members, friends, or with live in child care. Double doors on the parlor level can be shut, giving a resident their own kitchen, full bath and separate entrance. The basement is finished completely with separate entrance.

The block is rather special too. Many stunning row houses and brownstones adorn the tree lined block. You are a stone's throw away from vibrant Nostrand Avenue and within walking distance of Prospect Park. You are a 5 minute walk to Brower park and the Brooklyn Children's museum, a 6 minute walk to the 2,3, and 4 train, a 7 minute walk to the LIRR, and an 8 minute walk to the A and C train. Plenty of outdoor eating and great takeout restaurants all along Nostrand and Franklin Avenues. Easy street parking and also parking lots and garages within a 5 minute walk.

Pets upon approval. Guarantors accepted upon approval. Available starting 9/1.

Crown Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Originally known as Crown Hill by the Lenape Indians that lived there, Crown Heights has evolved into a diverse neighborhood, occupied primarily by Hasidic Jews and one of the largest Caribbean populations to be found anywhere outside of the West Indies.

Head over to Nostrand Avenue, one of the main West Indian commercial areas in the neighborhood, which is lined with stores that have been in those exact same places for generations, providing their goods and services to area residents. Kingston Avenue has similar commercial activities that support the Jewish community, and Franklin Avenue shows the most signs of change and gentrification, with an ever-expanding mix of yoga studios, coffee shops, and organic grocery stores that serve the influx of young professionals. No matter which of these areas you visit, you will find an interesting mix of businesses that you wouldn’t normally picture as existing side-by-side. It is all part of the cultural diversity of Crown Heights.

The neighborhood is bisected, from east to west, by Eastern Parkway, which is a beautiful, 3-mile-long boulevard lined with mature trees. This leafy oasis was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed designer of Central Park, the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, and the U. S. Capitol in Washington, D. C.

You will find a mix of low-rise apartment buildings, large middle-class elevator buildings, brownstones, and some luxury buildings. Century-old architecture stands next to modern residential developments in a visually interesting mix of styles, much as the diversity of the residents exists. People who would not normally meet and mix are forging new pathways to cultural understanding by working, living, and playing together in the same neighborhood.
