Property Description for 434 East 52nd Street, 4-G

Bing & Bing with all the bells and whistles. Set in a Bing & Bing / Emery Roth collaboration par excellence, this exceptional Southgate apartment features a sunken living room with 13' ceiling, wood burning fireplace, wide-plank wood floors, and a stunning 10' high, double-width window. The entry level dining room leads to a staircase and wrought iron balcony that overlook the gasp-worthy living area. A galley kitchen boasts custom cherry cabinets, east facing window and a central position from which to oversee the dramatic space below. The primary bedroom looks north over the tree-lined 52nd Street cul-de-sac, comfortably fits a king bed, has a windowed ensuite bath, generous closets and washer/dryer. The second bedroom faces south overlooking the building's landscaped common garden. Custom built-ins attractively house heat and AC in each of the main rooms. An updated second bathroom has a beautiful marble tiled floor and glass enclosed shower. There are classic Emery Roth touches throughout — beamed ceilings, graceful moldings and signature doorknobs and hardware. 434 East 52nd Street is an impeccably run, full-service building in the Southgate complex - considered to be Manhattan's most distinctive residential Art Deco ensemble. The building is pet-friendly, allows pied-a-terre ownership and sublets. Electricity is included in the maintenance.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
