Property Description for 14 East 4th Street, 1105

The epitome of downtown loft living! Welcome to Penthouse 1105 at the iconic Silk Building. This corner triplex loft offers the most exquisite panoramic views of the entire city, 4 bridges, to the East River and beyond. This home was carefully designed by renowned architect Alastair Standing and renovation completed in 1999. Far ahead of its time, this loft features contemporary design elements such as Subzero and Miele paneled appliances, switchable smart glass which highlights the views from interior rooms, and movable walls for flexibility when entertaining. Though the indoor space is voluminous and bright, the true highlight of this loft is the magical rooftop terrace and garden. Perfect for morning yoga or evening dinners, this terrace has gorgeous 180 degree views to the East and South, from the downtown skyline and One World Trade Center to the East River and Brooklyn beyond. There is even a peekaboo Empire State Building view to the North. The terrace has a full automatic irrigation system, electricity, water, and connection for an outdoor shower. Connecting the loft and the terrace is a glass solarium, which also features a half bath and kitchenette with dishwasher and sink for easy entertaining on the terrace level. This floor is easily accessed by the service elevator, which is directly off the kitchen of 1105, making hosting a breeze as you simply roll your bar cart from the kitchen out to the terrace level. The interior of the loft is both dramatic and comfortable. Corner East and South exposures flood the loft with light all day long, and there is a sizable great room with a wood burning fireplace (so rare!), a separate dining area and a movable wall separating the primary bedroom suite. In the generously-sized primary bedroom there are blackout shades, ample closet storage, and an oversized 5 fixture master bath with Jacuzzi tub and separate large shower. Both baths have switchable glass allowing the stunning views through the windows to be visible from the inside. The lower level has two additional bedrooms and a full bath, plus a ton of closet space (with invisible hinges), a gracious foyer and a laundry room. The Silk Building is famous for its celebrity residents - from Cher and Britney Spears (neighbors of 1105) and Diane Keaton (who previously lived in 1105), Keith Richards, Russell Simmons... the list goes on and on. It's the charm and character of the building, its exceptional location, and great energy that have been such a draw to so many people over the years. This special loft must be seen in person to be truly appreciated. A unique downtown offering which checks every box on your list!

Noho | Manhattan

Quick Profile

NoHo, an acronym for North of Houston, is a trendy neighborhood with expansive lofts, chic shops, and hip eateries. It was once part of Greenwich Village, but as New York City changes and coolness always redefines itself, the neighborhood, which is more like a small nook, has morphed into a happening secession of its own.

Like many New York City neighborhoods, the boundaries are subjective and the exact location always depends on who you ask. Generally, NoHo is understood to be bounded by East Eighth Street to the north, East Houston Street to the south, Bowery Street to the east (which becomes Cooper Square north of East Fourth Street), and Broadway to the west.

It’s hard to believe that NoHo was once a sketchy no-man’s land with more than its share of dilapidated structures. These gentrified days, it’s a healthy mix of older buildings, renovated warehouses and newer construction by iconic architects. For such a small area, NoHo has three historic districts that cover much of the neighborhood.

Broadway, Bowery, and Lafayette is the business district of the neighborhood. You’ll find it all in this neck of the woods. From trendy one of a kind retailers to popular brand stores. It rivals its SoHo neighbor in places to shop.

Architecture buffs get your walking shoes on. There are many historical and modern buildings throughout the neighborhood. Colonnade Row, the Cable Building, and the Schermerhorn Building are just a few of the many notable buildings you’ll find.
