Property Description for 392A Bainbridge Street

392A Bainbridge Street is a three-story, two-family sandstone jewel box filled with enough architectural detail to evoke romance, warmth and charm in spades. Built circa 1894 in the Romanesque/Renaissance Revival, by, Henry B. Hill, 392A Bainbridge Street had the bulk of its restoration and renovation done in 2010 and has been continually upgraded ever since — with particular emphasis on the architecturally-designed custom kitchen. Upon entering you are met with the original encaustic floor tile and lincrusta wallpaper in the entryway. Through the original windowed, oak vestibule door, the waist-high-paneled foyer and bent stairway embellished with fretwork, set the tone for the exceptionally charming parlor floor. Once inside the front parlor, an oversized paneled, stained glass window with pretty pinks, yellows and greens vies for attention with the ornately carved and columned oak fireplace mantle with original tiles and summer cover and original beveled overmirror. This mantle is the first of five fireplaces that you’ll find throughout the home. No matter where your gaze takes you, it will surely satisfy. In the rear parlor, the current owner/architect has beautifully married the original details of the room — including another original mantle — with a state-of-the-art kitchen by taking inspiration from the original architecture. Two-toned shaker-style custom cabinets, designer backsplash, quartz countertops and ample open and closed storage produces a gorgeous and practical kitchen any chef would enjoy. A door cleverly inserted into one of the original window openings enables a walkout to the backyard without disturbing the original window symmetry. Stairs lead down to the landscape yard sheltered by a beautiful Crepe Myrtle tree and a Rose of Sharon that supply blooms all summer long. A parlor floor powder room is added convenience. Upstairs you’ll find two large bedrooms, a smaller side room, full bath and a laundry closet. The primary bedroom spans the full width of the house creating a spacious, alcoved retreat that includes the third of the five original fireplace mantles in the home and a walk-in closet. The second sizable bedroom also features an original mantle and a walk-in closet. The closeted smaller room can be used as a bedroom, office or den. The garden level encompasses the two-bedroom rental apartment featuring the last of the five mantles. With an excess of charm, and the appeal of two-bedrooms with access to outdoor space, there will be no problem renting this sweet apartment quickly. 392A Bainbridge Street is centrally located close to the C train at Ralph Ave and short walk to the express A/C trains Utica Avenue and the J train at Halsey Street. Saratoga Park is a short three-block walk to the north. Enjoy nearby eateries such as Sonora, Lady Moo Moo ice cream, Greedi Vegan, Butch & Coco, Grandchamps, Milk & Pull, Nana Ramen, Chez Oskar, Trad Room, L’Antagoniste and grocery shop at Halsey Traders; and a few more steps will take you to Saraghina, Peaches, Mama Fox; see world-class jazz at Bar LunAtico — to name just a few of the exciting establishments in burgeoning Bedford Stuyvesant.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
