Property Description for 627 Decatur Street

Welcome to 627 Decatur, a lovely two-unit brownstone on a charming block in Stuyvesant Heights. Dating from 1899, 627 Decatur retains some original details, including the original vestibule tiles, some decorative fireplaces, and skylights, and has been fully upgraded with new electrical, plumbing, and mechanicals. In addition, the current owner has made numerous significant improvements, including a completely new kitchen with all new appliances; new primary and lower floor bathrooms; addition of the Nest system for temperature control; a ring video doorbell; a new front stoop, as well as roof (2014); redoing of the fa ade and repointing of the rear bricks; and enhancement of backyard garden. The owner's triplex is comprised of three bedrooms with the potential for a fourth bedroom or media/office space; an open plan kitchen/living room; a bonus sun/dining room; two full bathrooms; and direct access to the full-length basement. Upstairs is a renovated two bedroom apartment with modern kitchen and convenient configuration that commands nice rental income for the owner (current lease though April 2022).

As you enter the owner's triplex from the garden floor, you are greeted by an open plan living/entertaining space and sizeable kitchen with breakfast bar. The large living area features an electric heat-generating fireplace with exposed brick and sitting area with windows looking out on pretty brownstones of the street. The new kitchen has custom cabinetry, quartz countertops as well as a full complement of new appliances including a Smart refrigerator, and nice breakfast bar where guests can also sit while meals are being prepared. As one moves to the back, there is a guest bedroom, a newly renovated bathroom with rainfall showerhead and body jets, and finally a bright sun room which the current owner uses as a light-filled dining room. From here, there is a door to the lovely backyard, featuring a patio for grilling/dining, and leafy trees, plants, and flowers.

On the parlor floor you will find two full bedrooms, a spacious bathroom, and a front area which can dually serve as a home office and media room, or another large bedroom with closet (if a wall is added). The generous primary bedroom faces the serene backyard garden and features two windows, a decorative fireplace with original tiles, and ample closet space. The renovated primary bath is adorned with a tasteful vanity and soaking tub. Next door is another bedroom (currently used as a walk-in shoe and clothes closet!); this floor has also has a convenient access to the common vestibule and main stoop.

The top floor two-bedroom unit can serve as an income-producing property, or in-law apartment. It has a clever configuration with bedrooms on either side of an open living room, featuring exposed brick, two original skylights, a decorative fireplace in the bedroom, and a modern kitchen and bath. Finally, the private basement with laundry is easily accessed through an interior staircase and finished with tile floors. It offers the chance for a workout or playroom, or just much-needed storage space.

627 Decatur lies on a lovely, tree-lined street in the heart of Stuyvesant Heights, which is closed to car traffic on Fridays and Saturdays for the enjoyment of residents and kids. It is an easy 5-minute walk to the J train at Halsey, running express during rush hours to Lower Manhattan in 20 minutes. It is also around the corner from cafes such as Butch & Coco and restaurant favorites like Sonora; Chez Oscar; Trad Room; the Michelin-reviewed L'Antagoniste; Nana Ramen; and Brooklyn-renowned Saraghina and Peaches; Halsey Trader's Market (grocery), Manny's (wine shop), Blink Fitness, and many conveniences on Broadway are all nearby. Saratoga Park is two blocks up and JFK Airport is a quick 20min drive. Come make this move-in ready home yours today!

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
