Property Description for 223 Chauncey Street

Welcome home to this federal brick, two-unit townhouse, located in Brooklyn's Bed Stuy neighborhood. This spacious, fully-renovated home has white oak flooring throughout and an owner's triplex, featuring 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a giant basement/multi-purpose room; and a studio apartment offering potential rental income, or another bedroom/guest quarters. The new owners have put in substantial improvements since purchasing the home, including a newly landscaped backyard with irrigation and night lighting; a sump pump and backyard draining system; a custom-built primary bedroom closet; and a refinished basement/home office/workout/playroom.

The open-plan living space offers a sunlit living/dining and kitchen area with generous 10' ceilings. The modern kitchen includes Carrera quartz countertops, leather strap handles, high-end appliances including a Smart refrigerator, a five-burner stove, and Bosch dishwasher. The living/dining space includes room for a large sectional and formal dining table, exposed brick, and a powder room. Just off the living space, unwind, converse, and enjoy a glass of wine in your newly landscaped 53.5' deep backyard with plants, flowers, and pavers throughout, along with custom night-lighting and an irrigation system.

Proceeding upstairs, natural sunlight streams through the upper level skylight, leading you to 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. The primary bedroom includes a custom walk-in closet and ensuite bath, which is adorned with slate-tinted porcelain tiled floors, a large sink, and a shower with hexagon flooring. The well-proportioned bedrooms with exposed brick are bright, cheerful, and well designed, and the third bedroom can be used as a perfect office for WFH.

The English private basement can be conveniently accessed through an interior staircase or from under the front stoop, and has been newly finished with waterproof flooring, painted brick, and industrial-sized washer and dryer. The current owners have transformed this bonus space into a workout and playroom with desk, along with additional storage armoires. It should be noted that this house also has unused FAR of 2,220sf, should you wish to extend out the back or add another floor.

223 Chauncey lies on a pretty, tree-lined street in the heart of Stuyvesant Heights. It is within 5 minutes of the A express train at Utica, taking one to Lower Manhattan in 20 minutes. It is also close to cafes such as Milk & Pull and restaurant favorites like Chez Oscar; Trad Room; the Michelin-rated L'Antagoniste; and Nana Ramen; Halsey Trader's Market (grocery) and Manny's (wine shop); Brooklyn-renowned Saraghina and Peaches; and Blink Fitness. There is Saratoga Park nearby and JFK Airport is a quick 20min drive. Come see this beautiful house and why Bed Stuy is one of the most desired places to live with everything you need!

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
