Property Description for 501 West 123rd Street, 8-D

Hello, Sunshine! This renovated east-facing beauty has open city views and ample space for living. From the moment you enter, the light and views draw you into this home and through each room. The perfectly proportioned great room accommodates grand-scale furniture, including a sofa, love seat, and a wall of bookcases or integrated media center. The separate windowed dining area has an additional north-facing window that provides an incredible uptown sightline. The gut-renovated kitchen offers plenty of cabinetry, including a double-door pantry with pull-out drawers and a place for everything, including a neatly tucked-away garbage/recycling center & spice rack. A suite of high-end Samsung appliances, including a 5-burner range, dishwasher, above-the-counter microwave, French-door refrigerator/freezer with external ice/water service, and professional range hood make cooking a pleasure, while the elegant glass-tile backsplash and black solid-surface countertops make cleanup a cinch. In addition, a windowed alcove in the kitchen adjacent to the dining room is a perfect spot for a cafe table for morning coffee or a banquette for casual dining. The kitchen can be left open for easy circulation or closed off from the bedroom wing with a handy pocket door. The fully renovated bathroom features linear Kohler fixtures and beautiful marble tile throughout. The gracious primary bedroom boasts plenty of room for a king-sized bed, a home office, nightstands, and a large chest of drawers, in addition to 2 closets with integrated lighting and oversized windows. CityProof windows have been added to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep. The second bedroom is also large, facing east with 2 closets. Two generous entry closets and electrical upgrades throughout, including pendant lighting and ceiling fixtures, elevate the offering. 501 West 123rd Street is a pet-friendly, smoke-free coop with a modern community laundry room set on the 9-acre grounds of Morningside Gardens. Morningside Gardens is currently undergoing a complete overhaul (renderings courtesy of Terrain) to upgrade the connecting walkways, signage, parking facilities, playground, furnishings, and plantings of flower gardens and ornamental trees. The complex offers 24-hour security, bicycle storage, a playroom, fitness center, game room, event space, and even an on-site daycare/early childhood education center affiliated with Columbia University. The coop owns the ground floor retail spaces, which are fully occupied and include a brand-new full-service grocery store, a new 24-hour deli, two restaurants, a Citibank, and more. Easy access to public transportation, including the 1/A/C/B/D trains and bus lines. Nestled between Morningside Park and Riverside Park this home is near Columbia University, City College, and all of the restaurants of Harlem and Morningside Heights.

Morningside Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Due to the large number of institutes of higher learning that are housed within its borders, most notably Columbia University, Morningside Heights has a very definite college-town vibe. It has been dubbed the “Academic Acropolis,” both for the large number of schools and for the fact that the neighborhood is built high atop the Manhattan schist bluffs that are the geological bedrock of NYC. From this vantage point, which is the highest point of land in all of Manhattan, you can take in stunning views of upper Manhattan and the Hudson River. Sunsets are especially breathtaking from Riverside Park.

Walk through Morningside Heights and you’ll see a diverse population, especially when the schools are in session. It has a generally quiet atmosphere, bounded by large green spaces, dotted with small cafes, specialty stores, and restaurants that offer all manner of international cuisine. There is a modest nightlife consisting of intimate bars and small musical venues, many of which are open to the wee hours of the morning, and frequented by students.

Housing is primarily pre-war buildings that have larger apartments and beautiful architecture clustered around Broadway. You can find affordable walk-ups in low-rise buildings on the side streets. Many of the residential buildings in the area actually are owned by Columbia University.
