HISTORY Built circa 1856 by James Renwick Jr., the famed architect behind St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Grace Church, 24 West 10th Street is part of “Renwick Row,” or “English Terrace Row.” Wide, elegant, shrouded by trees and swathed in amber light, this stately row stands over 165 years later and makes this stretch of 10th Street one of the most spectacular in the city. In 1906, previous owner Cornelius Berrien Mitchell founded the Washington Square Association at 24 West 10th Street, “to maintain and improve the character and culture of the Washington Square neighborhood.” The Washington Square Association remains among the oldest civic organizations in the city. Its many endeavors include the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting, Washington Square Spring Music Festival, and the park’s numerous projects. LAYOUT The delightful Garden Floor features a spacious den with a kitchenette, powder room, and direct access to the serene south garden. A spacious home office is complete with its own bathroom, and direct access to the home’s second entrance, underneath the stoop. This level also affords ample storage, with multiple closets and two storage vaults. The First Floor is comprised of a grand foyer, large chef’s kitchen with a breakfast room, stunning formal dining room with an ornate mantel, and a discreet powder room. The spacious eat-in kitchen boasts marble countertops, custom mahogany wood cabinetry, and a suite of high-end stainless steel appliances. The Parlor Floor is ideal for grand entertaining and lounging, with a formal living room, a plush library with custom built-ins, a convenient powder room, and a hidden wet bar with a wine refrigerator and plenty of storage space. Both rooms have wood-burning fireplaces, and ceiling heights reaching nearly 13.5’. On the Third Floor, the primary bedroom boasts generous proportions, a huge walk-in closet, wood-burning fireplace, and couple’s bathroom. There is also a second bedroom with its own fireplace, and a windowed study on this level. The Fourth Floor affords two gracious bedrooms, each with en suite bathrooms and ample closets, plus a laundry room with a utility sink. Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
