Property Description for 405 West 23rd Street, 5-F

Welcome to 405 West 23rd St., 5F, a beautifully designed and smartly laid-out studio with loads of prewar charm and great light from open city and skyline views facing south. With much attention paid to architectural detail in the renovation by its designer-owner, this oversized studio with its separate entry foyer, dressing room, nicely preserved original bathroom, renovated windowed kitchen, generous sleeping alcove, and cleverly-designed built-ins make it truly stand out from the rest.

Enter into the gracious foyer and ahead is the bright 19 x 14.5 common living space with 8 feet, 9 inches ceilings, two oversized double-paned windows, custom built-ins of which one houses a through-wall Friedrich air conditioner, and plenty of space for entertaining, dining, working and sleeping. The windowed chef's kitchen, with lots of room given its generous Carrara marble counter tops, features abundant cabinetry, open shelving, a brand-new Fisher & Paykel dishwasher, a new Avanti gas range, an under counter SubZero refrigerator and freezer, and a new GE microwave. The well-designed sleeping alcove includes lacquered finish built-ins housing a full-size Murphy bed, bedside night stand, and lots of storage. Off the entry foyer is the generous dressing area featuring an Elfa system closet and a custom-built wenge wood armoire with drawers and shelving. This leads to the well-preserved original subway tile bathroom with oversized bathtub and pedestal sink. There are oak-strip hardwood floors throughout, and electricity and gas are included in the maintenance.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
