Property Description for 30 Beekman Place, 6-D

This classic residence, firmly rooted in the Beekman Place heritage, elegantly integrates traditional aesthetics with contemporary living. Throughout this spacious two bedroom, two bathroom home, classic design motifs are fundamental to the unique character and personality of this prewar cooperative: defined entrance gallery, beamed ceilings with dentil moldings, both wainscoted and paneled walls, bell curve entrance ways, arched door openings, and symmetrical window configurations. The beautifully proportioned living room easily accommodates a dining area. The second bedroom, with a wall of custom built-ins and ensuite marble bath, can easily be used as a home office. The oversized master bedroom suite has a dressing passageway, abundant closets, and pristine windowed bathroom. The precisely renovated kitchen features double windows, marble backsplash and countertops, stainless steel appliances, subway tile floor, and lacquered wood cabinetry. For the oenophile, there is a separate wine cooler and wall of custom wine racks. All the details (hand stippled doors, brushed nickel hardware and distinctive light fixtures) are small pieces of the whole; however, together they define the classic beauty of this exquisite Beekman Place home.

Designed by the noted architect, George F. Pelham, and built in 1930; 30 Beekman Place is a full-service, prewar cooperative with 24-hour doorman, live-in superintendent, basement storage, and building water purification system. The recent improvements to the building include a new state-of-the-art central laundry room and fully-outfitted windowed gym. In addition, the magnificent lobby was renovated to its original grandeur. The building is pet friendly and allows pied-a-terres. Located on an immaculate tree-lined block, 30 Beekman Place has the reputation of being an impeccably managed cooperative in one of the city's most sophisticated neighborhoods. Building now allows 75% financing.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
