Property Description for 159 Duane Street, PH

Spectacular terraces, epic NYC views and extraordinary light from this Duplex Penthouse perched atop an exclusive, intimate and boutique condominium right in the most coveted part of Tribeca. Private keyed elevator provides direct access to both floors. This remarkable Penthouse, converted from a brownstone and cast-iron facade that embraces the area's rich architectural heritage, offers a rare indoor/outdoor living experience spanning approx. 2,675 square feet interior and 725 square feet exterior. One arrives into a dramatic living room with four gracefully arched and deep-set windows that flank the entire great room. Quintessential white brick detail and a fantastic 23-foot celestery greet you upon arrival. A chef's kitchen is fully equipped with top-of-the-line appliances and a generous breakfast bar island for cocktails and casual dining. The first level's entry atrium extends north to two well done bedrooms, with one full bathroom, one powder room and a conveniently placed laundry room, while the south end incorporates an open-loft concept with living and dining.

This property conveys a sense of absolute calm and serenity. Upon walking up the interior glass-wall staircase through the celestery, one elevates to a full-floor primary suite sundrenched by skylights and north and south walls of full-floor casement windows that vanish the boundary between the interior and this extensive outdoor living, with verdant plantings and views of the city and beyond. There are two terraces located on either side of this upper level. The south terrace is complete with a built-out outdoor kitchen and grill, sizable dining and two large and relaxed seating areas. The private northern balcony is bordered by planters for additional privacy, and the windowed bathroom boasts spa level finishes, chic modern fixtures and a floating soaking tub and glass shower stall.

Enjoy city views from the tranquility of the sitting room, or step through glass double doors to the expansive south terrace ideal for parties and lounging. This upper level provides an area that is currently designated with a home office and dressing suite, and could be utilized for a workout area. This exquisite home leaves nothing to be desired. Set in Tribeca's landmarked Historic District, 159 Duane St is a classic and exclusive residential conversion. This coveted location is one block from historic Duane Park, moments from Hudson River Park and Battery Park, and surrounded by some of the best dining in New York City and most exclusive boutiques that make this neighborhood special.

Quick Profile

TriBeCa, named after the small geographic triangle below Canal Street. It’s not really a triangle, it's a quadrilateral and it's bounded by West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. It’s a little too late for a name change and besides, QuaBeCa doesn't sound half as cool as Tribeca.

One of New York City’s more notable acronymed neighborhoods, TriBeCa is known for its trendy boutiques, fabolous restaurants, historical landmarks, and resident celebrity lofts. It still holds the title of one of the coolest places to live in New York City.

TriBeCa is one of the first residential neighborhoods of New York City. Way back in 1700’s wealthy New Yorkers built homes and maintained gardens in what is now TriBeca.

Later in history it shifted from residential to warehouses, commerce and markets. After the Civil War, shipping hubs moved from the East River to the Hudson River and revitalized areas like the South Street Seaport and TriBeca. When shipping and commerce increased, the area soon became a favorite spot for wholesalers to store their goods in large industrial warehouses.

Just like its neighbor SoHo, TriBeCa boasts one of the world’s largest collections of wrought-iron facades and Neo-Grecian architecture.
