Property Description for 59 West 12th Street, 7-EF

Stunning, triple mint three bedroom home at 59 West 12th Street, a highly sought-after full service Bing and Bing prewar condominium in the heart of Greenwich Village. Renovated and designed by AD 100 architect Elizabeth Roberts Architects, apartment 7EF combines clean lines, luxe amenities, and inviting prewar character. Artfully designed with an impeccable attention to detail, this exceptionally rare apartment is an absolute must see.

A gracious entry foyer leads to the expansive open plan living area. Facing South over tree-lined West 12th street, the living room is flooded with light all day with views that are a perfect combination of downtown Manhattan, architectural details of the neighboring buildings, blue sky and treetops. A gorgeous working wood-burning fireplace and custom mantel hand-carved in Breccia Medicea marble centers the room. The dining area is set back from the living room and can easily accommodate a dining table for 10-plus people ideal for those who love to entertain. A custom steel and glass door by Atelier Domingue adds architectural flair and character. There are wide-plank custom Russian white oak floors by Siberian Floors throughout the apartment, along with Farrow & Ball paint, and wallpaper by Fornasetti, Pierre Frey, and Schumacher.

The impeccable and intuitively designed chefs kitchen is open to the dining area and features a La Cornue 1908 range and oven, integrated Sub Zero fridge, Miele dishwasher and microwave, Sub Zero wine fridge, and a farm sink with Lefroy Brooks unlacquered brass faucet. There is beautiful custom cabinetry throughout with Colonial Brass hardware, and immense marble work surface and storage space. While open concept, there is also a level of privacy the kitchen area affords that allows it to be discreet. A casement window with open exposure completes the chic look of the functional, yet stylish room.

Blissfully quiet and serene, the primary suite is perfectly tucked away on one side of the apartment providing the utmost privacy. A hallway lined with closets leads to the enormous bedroom with wood-burning fireplace and massive walk-in closet designed by California Closets. There is an additional home office with a custom built-in desk and floor to ceiling bookcases. The bathroom features a custom carved carrara marble double sink vanity, heated floors, Barber Wilson shower, bath and sink fittings, as well as Urban Electric brass sconces. The two additional bedrooms are both south-facing and graciously sized. Designed as suites, they each have ample closet and storage space as well as privacy. There is thru-wall air conditioning throughout.

59 West 12th Street is a full-service prewar Bing and Bing condominium built in 1931 and converted in 1986. There is a full time doorman and live in resident manager and resident storage in the basement.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
