Property Description for 148 West 23rd Street, 11-A

Residence 11A at the Chelsea Mews is an oversized one (flexible two) bedroom with a massive open concept living space and 11’2 ceilings. Located in the rear of the building, this South facing residence has hardwood floors and new windows offering open city views. The current owner installed reclaimed wood finishings which include beautiful accent beams, shelving, and built-in benches. These unique additions really elevate the space. A grand 20' x 25' entertaining space, the open living and dining area is centered by a custom stone wall adorned with mantle and decorative fireplace. Tucked away just next to the living area is the windowed kitchen with plenty of storage and counter space. The kitchen features a Bosch dishwasher and under-counter lighting. There is an additional windowed loft storage space accessible by a custom spun-metal ladder. The primary bedroom features track lighting, city views, and endless storage. No need for a dresser as this room boasts a wall of built-in reclaimed wood drawers in addition to a wall of closets for hanging space. Across the hall is a pair of two tiled powder rooms connected by a full bath; perfect to allow for a flex second bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Chelsea Mews is a loft co-op built in the early 20th century. This full service building offers a full time doorman, live-in-superintendent, bike storage, and laundry on each floor. With easy access to Eataly, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Madison Square Park, and more, the location offers the best of downtown living.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
