Property Description for 790 Riverside Drive, 1-K

2bd/2bth high-ceilinged apartment one floor above the grand lobby of the Rivera, an imposing full-service, pre-WWI building in lower Washington Heights, in the Audubon Park Historic District, one block from the #1 subway stop at 157th Street and Broadway.. The bedroom/bathroom suites are located at opposite ends of the apartment, with the common living area and kitchen lying in-between, an arrangement that offers privacy from roommates, house guests or even live-in staff. A home office which can double as a large storage area is also located in one of the wings.
The unit is filled with thoughtful design elements such as remote-control operated two-way blinds which hide the air conditioners installed at the tops of the windows.allowing you to let the sun shine in before getting out of bed. The open kitchen includes a stacked washer and dryer hidden behind cabinet doors. The kitchen and bathrooms are fitted with a water filtration system even in the showers. Those with particular sensitivities can enjoy an apartment that does not share any walls with neighboring units and has new walnut floors that do not creak. A new custom-designed cedar closet protects your clothes.
Riverside Drive at 157th Street lies on a winding green cul-de-sac with a gated planned garden, and terrific access to the Hudson River bike path, the Henry Hudson Parkway, the George Washington Bridge one exit away, and lightly- used tennis courts, ball courts and play areas along the Hudson river. Situated in the "Columbia sandwich" above the Manhattanville and Morningside campuses, and just below the Columbia Irving Medical Center and NY-Presbyterian Hospital. Also in the vicinity of City College, Yeshiva, Manhattan School of Music, Union Theological Seminary and JTS.

Washington Heights | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Washington Heights, a hilly neighborhood on Manhattan’s northern tip known for its affordable apartments, preserved pre-war buildings, and Dominican food. Some would argue that it's a hidden gem and one of Manhattan's last neighborhoods that has retained its culture. The large swath of land is bordered by Inwood to the north along Dyckman Street, by Harlem to the South along 155th Street, by the Harlem River to the east, and the Hudson River to the West. It is the highest natural point on the Island of Manhattan.

Despite its high residential density, Washington Heights and Inwood have not seen modern housing construction in more than a decade other than relatively small housing units. Midtown Manhattan, Battery Park, TriBeCa, Chelsea, and Hell’s Kitchen, on the other hand, have seen an increase in building. Most of the high rise construction belongs to hospitals such as New York Presbyterian, Columbia University Medical Center, and educational institutions like Yeshiva University and Boricua College.

Washington Heights has access to amazing green spaces like The Cloisters, Fort Washington Park, Highbridge Park and Fort Tryon Park. There is no shortage of historical landmarks either. Remember General George Washington set up his camp in Washington Heights during the Revolutionary War. He used the elevated neighborhood to his tactical advantage to spot the Redcoats. As history would have it, his plan didn’t work out so well and the British occupied New York for seven years.
