Property Description for 170 Second Ave, 2-D

Residence 2D is a large, pre-war two bedroom, one bathroom home located at 170 Second Avenue, a striking Art Deco full-service cooperative building at the corner of Eleventh Street in the East Village. This spacious north and east facing corner residence contains many of the original details of the historic building that have been preserved or lovingly restored.

A grand entry foyer/gallery with multiple closets leads to an expansive living room, which is the centerpiece of this majestic, comfortable home. This 25’x13’ great room looks out over the lovely tree lined block of 11th street and boasts lovely light and has room for both a large dining table on one end and a wall of beautiful built-in floor-to-ceiling cabinetry at the other end. Both the living room and the foyer open into the large windowed eat-in kitchen, which features painstakingly stripped original full-height kitchen cabinetry with crown molding, Crema Marfil marble countertops, copper backsplashes, oak flooring, a Bosch dishwasher and a large eat-in breakfast area overlooking East 11th Street.

An original French door leads to the bedroom wing. The spacious corner bedroom overlooks the treetops of Eleventh Street and is outfitted with a deep closet. Currently set up as a spectacular office/guest room, the large second bedroom features two large closets (including one original cedar lined closet) and built-in floor-to-ceiling cabinetry. This bedroom faces the back and provides a quiet, peaceful retreat. Conveniently located between the two bedrooms is a windowed, black and white tiled bathroom with the original reglazed 5.5’ cast iron soaking tub, pedestal sink, and a large separate shower.

High beamed ceilings, hardwood oak flooring, exquisite moldings, solid doors and French doors with glass door knobs throughout are emblematic of the original details from the historic 1929 building that have been thoughtfully maintained in this home. Washer dryers are allowed and in fact the owners have already installed a washer/dryer hook-up behind a wall in one of the foyer closets. Other D lines have also added a second bathroom.

170 Second Avenue has a beautiful lobby with terrazzo floors, brass chandeliers, Art Deco murals and a mahogany-paneled elevator. It is impeccably maintained by a wonderful full-time staff, including a live-in superintendent, porters, and 24-hour elevator attendants. Amenities include central laundry, storage and bike rooms. It is located near fantastic restaurants, Union Square, Astor Place, Tompkins Square Park and public transportation.

East Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The East Village has two distinct moods. By day, it is quiet and peaceful. Everyone is out and about, either working or relaxing at Tompkins Square Park, strolling or jogging along the East River, or hanging out in one of the subsets of cultural activity, such as St. Mark’s Place.

But then night falls, and the East Village comes to life, keeping the entertainment and nightlife going long after the other neighborhoods have called it quits for the night. People from all five boroughs flock to the dive bars and speakeasies, head for their favorite cafes and restaurants, or drop in to a music venue to listen to hot tunes or cool jazz and dance the night away. Don’t worry, you don’t have to “know somebody” to gain admittance to even the most popular venues. You won’t find velvet ropes, bouncers, or and a waiting list at the door of most places. Just walk right in and enjoy yourself.

Be prepared for the increased population during fall through spring, when NYU is in session. College students will be everywhere, contributing to the youthful essense of the neighborhood.
