Property Description for 836 Halsey Street

Right off leafy Saratoga Park, this bright and airy two family townhouse was built just six years ago. Each unit is thoughtfully laid out with today's living in mind: lots of light and open spaces, private outdoor space for each unit, an enormous chef's kitchen in the upper duplex and no worries about having to update 50 year old plumbing or electric before you move in! The upper duplex has a lovely roof terrace and an open kitchen/living/dining area perfect for both entertaining and daily life. The kitchen is large enough to hold a dance party in! The sink looks south over the garden and into the trees, and a balcony right off the kitchen provides the perfect spot for that first morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine. Upstairs there are three substantial bedrooms. The primary bedroom has an ensuite bath with separate tub and shower-- yes, the dream. The washer/dryer is conveniently located near all the bedrooms, and a 2nd full bath serves the other two spaciously sized bedrooms. Upstairs is your very own roof terrace. Grow tomatoes and dahlias to your hearts delight up here, with no worries about shade from neighboring buildings or trees! The lower duplex is far more substantial, brighter and roomier than your typical brownstone garden apartment. This unit has it's own comfortable living and dining area with enough space for an actual table, an ensuite bedroom on the main floor, a separate powder room for entertaining, and a spacious and high-ceilinged downstairs den/home office/rec space that has sliding doors out to the garden with your very own fruit trees. Saratoga Park is practically out your door and the park is currently getting some major upgrades. This corner of Bed-Stuy is burgeoning with new shops and eateries and it's a easy walk (or easier bus-ride) down Halsey to neighborhood classics like Saraghina and Lunatico.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
