Property Description for 34-05 80th Street, 62

A rarely-offered, top floor, four-bedroom apartment is now on the market at the iconic, pre-war Chateau cooperative! With four exposures, fourteen windows, grand archways, and wood floors with detailed borders, this is an apartment with unparalleled character. This peaceful home does not share a wall with a neighboring apartment and has its own elevator landing. Sit in the gracious living room, beside the oversized windows and take in the lights of Manhattan's Upper East Side and the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, while enjoying a roaring fire under the original mantle. Wake up to birdsong in your master bedroom, among the treetops of the landscaped garden spanning nearly a full block, with majestic trees in excess of sixty feet high and southeastern exposures. The master bedroom's elegant chandelier is teardrop Murano glass, and the master bath features an oversized Zucchetti sink. Your windowed kitchen includes a Miele dishwasher, new stove and new GE Caf refrigerator, with counter space enough for the cook in your house to create holiday feasts. Entertain guests in your formal dining room with its wonderful southern and western light. The apartment has lots of closet space, two additional basement storage units and a shared bike room. The Chateau, with its dramatic slate mansard roofs, dormers, and finials, was one of the first garden apartment complexes in the country. The Chateau is truly an oasis in the city as well as the icon of Jackson Heights' historic district style. There is no other neighborhood like Jackson Heights. With its unmatched diversity and endless restaurants, it is the crown jewel of New York City's cuisine. Walk out your door and onto the magnificent 34th Avenue, the gold standard of Open Streets. Closed to traffic every day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., you can jog or stroll its one-and-a-third mile length undisturbed by vehicles. Just one block away you can shop at the largest farmers' market in Queens every weekend, year-round, where fresh fish comes in from Long Island and produce from upstate. Visit Travers Park, a 2-acre community park, with newly renovated green space, playground and courts, just down the avenue between 77th and 78th Streets. Located close to the 7 train's 82nd Street stop, and the E, F, M, R, 7 trains at Roosevelt Avenue and 74th Street, midtown Manhattan is an eleven minute train ride. Pets allowed.

Jackson Heights | Queens

Quick Profile

Jackson Heights has one of the most diverse populations in the city, and over 100 languages are spoken here. With this cultural diversity comes supporting restaurants, bars, shops and cultural opportunities. It is a mix of commercial and residential properties. There is a wide range of shops and service businesses, so that anything you would need, from a barber, to a pharmacy, to clothing, and food is available right in the neighborhood, no matter which culture or language you might need these services provided in.

Jackson Heights has three nicknames, based on micro-neighborhoods with the neighborhood as a whole. Little India occupies an area on 74th Street, while parts of 73rd Street are known as Little Pakistan. Little Columbia is along 37th Avenue.

A large portion of Jackson Heights has been designated as an historic district, from Roosevelt Avenue to Northern Boulevard, between the east side of 76th Street to the west side of 88th Street.

Jackson Heights was a planned community, where the first “garden apartments” were created in buildings constructed around central gardens and green spaces that gave neighbors a place to meet and socialize with one another, created places for children to play, allowing light to come into the apartments and air to flow freely through them. These gardens are private and only residents have access to them. Passing by the buildings, you might not even guess the gardens were there, as they are not generally visible from the street.

Additionally, there are some mid-rise apartment buildings. Some of these are rentals, some are co-ops, and some are condos. There are a few attached row houses that provide housing for one to three families.

As much as Jackson Heights might be full of noise and mix of cultures, it also has a quieter side, where the various cultures mix and mingle and learn about each other against a backdrop of beautiful architecture and a culinary landscape that brings the world to Queens.
