Property Description for 55 Liberty Street, PH-32

FOR THE OPEN HOUSE - CONTACT ME FOR A CONFIRMED APPOINTMENT TIME.

JEWEL IN THE CROWN -- THE TOP FLOOR OF HISTORIC LIBERTY TOWER. This penthouse spans the entire 32nd floor, over 1,700 gross square feet, with a dozen windows and spectacular views from sunrise to sunset of the Hudson and East rivers, the Wall Street canyon, and gargoyles at eye-level. Beautiful hardwood and marble flooring runs throughout. The foyer leads into an expansive living room (30' x 26'') featuring a wood-burning fireplace, nooks, office, and home theater. The kitchen opens onto the dining room. Each of the two bedrooms has its own bathroom. There is a washer and dryer in the apartment. The maintenance is over 60% tax-deductible and includes gas, water, and radiator heat. Liberty Tower is pet-friendly, and staff includes 24-hour doormen, porters, and a live-in superintendent. The side entrance on Liberty Place allows convenient loading and unloading from your car. The building is zoned for district 2, Spruce Street School (PS 397, Pre-K through 8th grade).

Designed by Henry Ives Cobb, Liberty Tower was upon its completion in 1910 "one of only a handful of skyscrapers," according to The New York Times. "Its striking Gothic style, the centuries-old inspiration for cathedral spires that reach into the sky to approach the divine, is central to the tower's romantic appeal," and the terra-cotta facade is richly adorned with birds, alligators, flowers and gargoyles. Designated a city landmark in 1982 and added the following year to the National Register of Historic Places, the building also received a preservation award from the New York Landmarks Conservancy in 2010.

Neighborhood amenities include dining and shopping at the Oculus, Eataly, Brookfield Place and the redesigned South Street Seaport. Many subway lines at the Fulton Center and the WTC Path station are moments away.

Financial District | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The Financial District (FiDi) today is a bit of a hybrid neighborhood, as the residential component continues to grow in an area that has been historically dominated by the financial and insurance industries. The residential experiment, which began more than two decades ago, continues to evolve in an area with a large concentration of older, large office buildings. Developers have taken to these aged buildings and have re-positioned them as residential properties. In turn, the public spaces, services and retail establishments needed for a thriving residential neighborhood have followed making this an important destination for city residents.

Since 2000, the residential population of the Financial District has nearly tripled in size from about 23,000 residents to more than 60,000 inhabitants. Many of the residential pioneers to FiDi were people attracted to the lower rents in the neighborhood, particularly the post-collegiate crowd. While the millennials still maintain a large footprint here, there are plenty of families that now consider the Wall Street area home.

Many of those that live in the Financial District walk to work. If you reside here and need to commute elsewhere, the transportation from here is about as good as it gets. Express trains can take you to Midtown, either east or west, in twenty minutes. Brooklyn is but a single subway stop away. There are also ferries across to Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.
