Property Description for 161 West 16th Street, 10-K

Welcome home to residence 10K at 161 West 16th Street, a graciously-sized one bedroom apartment with beamed high ceilings and sunny, western exposures at one of downtown's most desirable addresses. Original details are preserved and abound throughout this sophisticated residence including deco-age hardware, solid doors and refinished original walnut-stained hardwood floors. In addition, the refurbished original steel entry door, door frames and grill work pay homage to the prewar era. Enter into your welcoming, oversized gallery foyer featuring a custom walk-in closet and access to the restored prewar bath which is clad in coveted original tiling and includes a Duravit sink, recently reglazed original cast iron bathtub and restored metal fittings. Directly off the foyer is the generously-sized living room which accommodates both living and dining on a grand scale and features another generous closet for storage. The windowed renovated kitchen is efficient and bright - with plentiful counter space and storage, Caesarstone countertops, glass subway tile backsplash and finished with Liebherr and Bertazzoni appliances, under cabinet lighting and a fully integrated Fisher & Paykel dishwasher drawer. The massive primary bedroom easily accommodates a king-sized bed and offers a separate seating area plus additional space for a home office if desired. Another custom-designed lighted walk-in closet and a thru wall air conditioning system completes this bedroom sanctuary. One of the best features about this layout is that the bedroom and living room do not share a common wall which creates an expansive feel and a true separation between living spaces.161 West 16th Street is a pet-friendly cooperative apartment building comprised of 155 units on 20 Floors, built by famed architects Farrar & Watmough and built by developer Henry Mandel in 1930 within the heart of Chelsea. Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
