Property Description for 784 Madison Street, 1-B

Welcome to 784 Madison Street, Unit 1B — a rare combination of affordability, space and charm. This 3-bedroom, duplex condo was renovated from top to bottom in 2011 with recessed lighting and hardwood floors — and stylishly updated just this year. The garden level features a remodeled kitchen with pretty blue and white cabinetry offset by clean, white quartz countertops, classic subway tile backsplash, and white appliances including a dishwasher and gas range. The overall effect is both modern and inviting. The kitchen opens up to a dedicated dining space large enough to seat 6-8 comfortably. In the front of the garden level is a sizable bedroom with lovely arched windows overlooking P.O. Renaldo Segrado Playground — offering a wide, sky-filled view with no buildings across the street. In the rear of the apartment is the sunny, south-facing living room which overlooks possibly the largest backyard in Bedford Stuyvesant! The giant, shared backyard is underutilized which leaves you with almost your own massive outdoor space — for pets, kids, or the kid in you. A classically-tiled full bath completes the garden level. Upstairs includes 2 more bedrooms and a half bath. There are a total of 6 closets in the apartment PLUS there is a deeded storage space just 1 flight downstairs, where you'll also conveniently find the laundry room. Hot-water baseboard heat is efficient and has separate controls for each floor. Get ready for summer because 784 Madison St, is located across the street from P.O. Renaldo Segrado Playground, minutes to Saratoga Park, and the recently renovated Jesse Owens Playground featuring a built-in pool. If the backyard is not large enough for your green thumb, you'll find Citizens for a Better Community Garden just a block away. In addition to the many green spaces, 784 Madison St is located in the heart of Stuyvesant East with nearby hot-spots such as Toad Style, Chez Alex, Marian's Brooklyn, L'Antagoniste, Greedi Kitchen, Grandchamps, among many other Bed Stuy and Bushwick eateries and shopping. The J/Z/A/C trains are a 5-10 minute walk. J-51 tax abatement through mid 2030. Maintenance is $760pm plus a temporary assessment of $200 in effect for 3 years.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
