Property Description for 150 West 11th Street

A rare gem situated in the Greenwich Village Historic District. This exquisite home, originally built in 1836, sits on one of the most cherished blocks in the West Village. No detail was spared during the extensive restoration. The 19'-wide landmarked Greek Revival has been artfully restored using classic traditions and quality materials to last for centuries to come.

It features a highly desirable private garden exuding the old world charm of a European villa, complete with antique fountain, lush greenery and space for alfresco dining. Additional details include antique brick, solid cherry wide-plank hardwood flooring, and newly fabricated ironwork to create one of the loveliest homes in New York.

GARDEN LEVEL
The Garden level is highlighted by a magnificently designed gourmet kitchen and dining area that opens to a sunlit garden terrace. Design features include a wood burning fireplace; custom cherry wood cabinetry and paneled millwork; door, window, and cabinetry hardware made to order by the P.E. Guerin foundry in the West Village; and timeless fixtures, in polished nickel, forged by Lefroy Brooks. Custom patio doors open to the stone terrace, equipped with a barbecue for grilling and a lovely space for outdoor dining and enjoyment. Additionally, there is a -bath on the Garden Level which serves as a powder room.

PARLOR LEVEL
After being welcomed through the stately front door, you pass through a dramatic arch into an expansive, graceful living space featuring high ceilings and elegant, crown molding. Additional features include two wood burning fireplaces with period marble surrounds, custom bookcases, wide plank cherry hardwood flooring, and tall windows allowing abundant light. The rear windows open to quaint Juliette balconies with views to the terrace below, and an office space on this level is perfect for any workday set up.

THIRD FLOOR
This floor offers two handsomely proportioned bedrooms, both with beautiful light and views through large windows. The north facing bedroom features three windows and a gas fireplace with antique marble surround. These rooms are complemented by a striking bathroom with a separate water closet, large soaking tub and vanity.

FOURTH FLOOR
Dedicated solely as the primary master suite for ultimate privacy, this grand bedroom features three glorious north facing windows, marble gas fireplace, custom paneled millwork, and generous space allowing a California king bed and seating area. The en-suite primary bath is a glamorous sanctuary, featuring a large soaking tub, separate marble-slab shower with steam option, dual vanities, water closet, and towel warmer. A skylight original to the home is complemented by custom transom windows with privacy glass that grace the tub.

LOWER LEVEL
The lower level has been finished as the perfect space for a den, TV lounge, workout space, game room or playroom. Featuring custom, maple wood cabinetry for storage, and a dedicated A/V mechanical cabinet. Adjacent is a separate, large laundry room with custom storage cabinetry and utility closet.

150 West 11th Street stands alongside single-family townhouses with trees and flower beds gracing the sidewalks. The home is in the heart of the area that comprises New York's early cultural history, where many famous restaurants, bars, and bookstores are landmarks. It is near fashionable shops on Bleecker Street and some of the best restaurants, such as Via Carota, Dante, L'Artusi, and many more, that will leave you with endless options to explore. With deep roots of cultural history mixed with trendy hot spots and elegant boutiques, it is the place to live.

In 2007, the home was presented on the prestigious, benefit house tour held annually by the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
