Property Description for 148 West 23rd Street, 4-A

This is a true, loft home with eleven-foot ceilings and seven-foot windows, facing south and west. With two bedrooms, a full bathroom and a half bathroom that can be converted into another full bathroom with shower stall, you can design everything in your own fabulous style, with hardwood floors that are already in pristine and sleek condition. There is a loft area above the kitchen for amazing storage, or it can be removed to add greater height, matching the rest of the apartment. For convenience, laundry is on the every floor, and private storage cages and bike rooms are in the basement. There's also landscaped roof terrace with lovely plantings and outdoor furniture to enjoy a sunny day. Known as Chelsea Mews, this pre-war co-op building has a newly-finished facade and roof, a full-time doorman, live-in super, and is pet friendly with dogs under 70 pounds. Pied-a-terres, subletting two out of every five years and co-purchasing are allowed. Pets are also welcome!

You will also be in the heart of Chelsea, with four major grocery stores just a couple blocks away, such as Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Westside Market and Fairway. Additionally, convenience stores are everywhere, including coffee shops, restaurants and other eateries, Home Depot, Best Buy, Staples, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Eataly, and Lower Fifth Avenue retail shopping. Madison Square Park is only a couple blocks east; Hudson River Park is a few blocks west; and you will be close to the F, M, 1, E, C, R and W subway lines, as well as the crosstown bus. Two parking garages are also on the block.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
