Property Description for 1041 President Street

See this move-in-ready, single-family home on a charming tree-lined block in Crown Heights. The spacious, south-facing main floor is open-concept and loft-like but retains many of its old-world details, including the original fireplace, built-ins, and coffered ceilings. The freshly renovated chef’s kitchen has ample storage, custom cabinets, Gaggenau fridge, and windows flooding it with light. The dining room, which accommodates a massive table and adjoins a stunning powder room, is perfect for entertaining. There are three bedrooms upstairs, and a luxurious, large, sky-lit bathroom with a walk-in shower and separate tub. Roof, electric, and central heat & A/C are all new or recently redone; hardwood floors throughout. Seeking outdoor space? You’ll find a private, tiered yard; back patio and deck for cookouts; a large second-floor terrace; and a covered front porch for watching the world go by, rain or shine. (Oversized, 131-ft-long lot.) The fully finished, windowed basement has a separate entrance from the front and exit to the yard, washer/dryer, and full bathroom. Divided into two rooms, it’s perfect for an office, guest room/AirBNB, art/play space, or any combination of these. The location is unmatched: on a charming residential side street, a four-minute walk from the 2/3/4/5 trains, and a six-minute walk from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden or shuttle to the B/Q/C trains. Steps from the soaring Bedford Union Armory, which was recently converted to feature a rec. center w/ indoor basketball, six-lane lap pool, cardio & strength training, yoga, archery and event space. Nearby commercial life includes Bob & Betty’s Food Market (Union & Franklin); Agi’s Counter; Ital Kitchen (a veggie gem); and Union Market’s planned location at Bedford & Eastern Parkway. A quick walk or jog gets to you to bustling Franklin, Washington, Vanderbilt and Nostrand Avenues, the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn Children’s Museum, Grand Army Plaza Farmer’s Market, Prospect Park, and Brower Park.

Crown Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Originally known as Crown Hill by the Lenape Indians that lived there, Crown Heights has evolved into a diverse neighborhood, occupied primarily by Hasidic Jews and one of the largest Caribbean populations to be found anywhere outside of the West Indies.

Head over to Nostrand Avenue, one of the main West Indian commercial areas in the neighborhood, which is lined with stores that have been in those exact same places for generations, providing their goods and services to area residents. Kingston Avenue has similar commercial activities that support the Jewish community, and Franklin Avenue shows the most signs of change and gentrification, with an ever-expanding mix of yoga studios, coffee shops, and organic grocery stores that serve the influx of young professionals. No matter which of these areas you visit, you will find an interesting mix of businesses that you wouldn’t normally picture as existing side-by-side. It is all part of the cultural diversity of Crown Heights.

The neighborhood is bisected, from east to west, by Eastern Parkway, which is a beautiful, 3-mile-long boulevard lined with mature trees. This leafy oasis was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed designer of Central Park, the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, and the U. S. Capitol in Washington, D. C.

You will find a mix of low-rise apartment buildings, large middle-class elevator buildings, brownstones, and some luxury buildings. Century-old architecture stands next to modern residential developments in a visually interesting mix of styles, much as the diversity of the residents exists. People who would not normally meet and mix are forging new pathways to cultural understanding by working, living, and playing together in the same neighborhood.
