Property Description for 576 Bergen Street

This landmark Prospect Heights brownstone has classic bones and modern finishes. The lovingly renovated 2-family townhouse is a marriage of old-world charm, with high ceilings, over-sized windows and a historic brownstone facade, combined with newly-installed luxury touches. The recent owners made beautiful upgrades in anticipation of years of enjoyment, including herringbone oak floors throughout, central AC, new heating system, soundproof windows, designer lighting, custom shades, custom closets, and a new roof. This historic home is set back from the sidewalk behind a landscaped front yard, offering privacy from the street and creating a quiet oasis within. The main house has key-less entry to a stunning parlor floor, an open family space with formal dining room at the front of the house, leading to a Chef's kitchen with custom Italian cabinetry, a marble waterfall island, Wolf appliances, and Subzero refrigerators. The living room, at the peaceful back of the home, features a recently added extension with floor to ceiling windows looking over the massive backyard, a perk of this extra-long lot property. The perfect place for entertaining, the yard boasts brand new TimberTech decks and an outdoor kitchen by NewEco, complete with TimberTech cabinets, granite counter tops, Lion brand built-in grill, outdoor refrigerator, Big Green Egg smoker, and TimberTech storage bench. A spectacular feature of the parlor floor is an epic curved staircase that sweeps you up into the light from the newly added penthouse floor above, where skylights flood all the floors of the home with sunshine. Head upstairs to the second floor, where the generous master bedroom is located, along with a windowed dressing room with custom cabinetry. The sophisticated master bathroom has intricate tile work, a freestanding tub, separate toilet room, double sink with over-sized vanity and a glass-enclosed shower with a rainhead showerhead. The second bedroom on this floor also enjoys its own en-suite bath, with classic hexagon tiles and a glass-door shower. The top penthouse floor has two additional bedrooms and a full bath, all lit up by skylight windows. 576 Bergen Street can be enjoyed as a 5-bedroom, 4.5 bath single family home, or by simply closing a door, can be converted to a 4-bedroom, 3.5 bath owner’s triplex with a garden-level one bedroom rental. The garden apartment has a separate key-less entry, full kitchen, and washer/dryer. The entire home is wired for ADT Security and there is a huge sub-basement for additional storage. Prospect Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Prospect Heights is a small residential neighborhood surrounded by big attractions. It’s rich in culture and offers the perfect blend of old Brooklyn charm and modern-day hipness.

Residents of this tight-knit community include young professionals, families and long-time residents. It’s a walkers paradise - just steps from Prospect Park and a short walking distance to neighborhoods like Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Green and Clinton. You’re close to culture too. Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Library, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Barclays Center are all nearby.

Prospect Heights is bordered by Flatbush Avenue to the west, Washington Avenue to the east, Atlantic Avenue and Dean Street to the north and Eastern Parkway to the south.

Prospect Heights, like many areas of New York City, was first inhabited by indigenous tribes and eventually settled by the Dutch and turned into farmland.

A significant part of the Revolutionary War was fought in Prospect Heights and the surrounding areas. Known as the Battle of Brooklyn, it was the first military engagement following the Declaration of Independence. Things didn’t go so well for American forces so they retreated and the British occupied Manhattan for several years after the Battle of Brooklyn.

In 1867, the opening of Prospect Park caused major housing growth in Prospect Heights. The middle-class neighborhood was soon populated by Jewish, Italian, and Irish workers. Many of which were shop-owners or employed as laborers in nearby factories.

Housing in Prospect Heights includes single-family row houses, historic townhouses, co-ops, and new luxury condos. The median listed price for a 1-bedroom in Prospect Heights is $680,000 with an average price per square foot is $944.

The neighborhood's commercial artery runs along Vanderbilt Avenue and Washington Avenue. The variety of businesses adds to the charm of the neighborhood. They include bars, pubs, restaurants and mom-and-pop stores of all types. The shops and eateries are a perfect alternative to the big-name attractions that bracket the neighborhood. It's a little bit of everything in this neighborhood.

Subways are plentiful in Prospect Heights. Its proximity to Manhattan is another perk of the neighborhood. It's about a half-hour train ride. The B, D, N, Q, R, 2, 3, 4 and 5 subway lines all serve the Atlantic Avenue/Barclays Center station. 2, 3, 4, B and Q trains cover the neighborhood and the A and C trains are nearby too.
