Property Description for 70 Thomas Street, 2-AB

A truly awe inspiring duplex loft in the heart of Tribeca! This just renovated loft of 4200 sqft stands out amongst the crowd not only from its size but also it's bespoke handcrafted authentic design. Everything is meticulously restored or custom made to compliment the space.

Upon entering on the second floor you are immediately struck by an expansive living area with exposed brick walls and an architecturally stunning staircase with 27' to the floor below. Feel the warmth of Oregon milled Walnut floors throughout framed wonderfully with straight grain Douglas Fir millwork. Used to create a bookcase, wall credenza and wall bench that seamlessly tie into a wet bar with African marble countertop with Sub Zero ice maker, fridge and dishwasher. Integrated Sonos speakers create a delightful ambiance against the exposed wood joists that have been meticulously restored and insulated for maximum sound attenuation. 9' new double paned and hung landmark windows allows for great natural light from the northern exposure. Down the hallway is a delightful powder room with custom designed Calacatta marble sink.

A 10 foot mild steel and glass with brass handled pocket doors lead to the primary bedroom. With matching casement enclosed glass wall and French doors you find the walk in closet you have only dreamed of with Douglas Fir center drawer island and industrial inspired shelving and rods. Directly across is a second walk in closet currently used as a home office. Both with Jasper Morrison lights.

The primary bedroom is an oasis with separate seating area, 13'+ ceilings and South facing double paned windows. A stunning primary bathroom escape abuts with walk in shower, soaking tub with fluted tile handcrafted in Mexico, Calacatta marble and Kohler industrial line fixtures.

All metal work was done by local artisan Gabriel Shelton including the grand staircase with solid one piece walnut stairs leading to the the first floor. Almost 14' ceiling height with an open plan living, dining and kitchen area. The kitchen has a center island with a solid slab waterfall Italian Princessa Quartz countertop. Custom cabinets, dual sinks with Blanco fixtures, Sub Zero fridge, six burner Wolf range, 6' custom steel milled exhaust vented to the outside, Bosch dishwasher and built on coffee station. A second entry and "hidden" hallway allow for easy every day access. And houses the full size washer drier and second powder room. On the south side a secondary bedroom with reclaimed bleacher wood bead board and custom built in Douglas fir bunk bed. Open design closet with a handcrafted metal sink. Next to it a second full bath designed with artful wood grain blue tile and a deep tub with shower. A piece of art more than a door, an artistically deigned 10' glass and mild steel door swings into the guest suite with massive custom South facing windows for the day and skylight windows for that night sky and sunset light. En-suite a Japanese inspired bathroom with Jatoba wood walk in shower, large concrete cast trough sink and Japanese soaking tub.

This apartment owns 40% of the basement and roof rights for further possible expansion. Central 10 ton 3 zone HVAC and separate boiler. A small self managed co-op with flexible sublet rules in the heat of Tribeca and all it has to offer. Set quietly on a side street and at the same time next door to Odeon Bistro and surrounded by wonderful boutiques some of New York's best restaurants, cafes, parks and more. This has the feel of a bygone era with the convenience of modern amenities.

Quick Profile

TriBeCa, named after the small geographic triangle below Canal Street. It’s not really a triangle, it's a quadrilateral and it's bounded by West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. It’s a little too late for a name change and besides, QuaBeCa doesn't sound half as cool as Tribeca.

One of New York City’s more notable acronymed neighborhoods, TriBeCa is known for its trendy boutiques, fabolous restaurants, historical landmarks, and resident celebrity lofts. It still holds the title of one of the coolest places to live in New York City.

TriBeCa is one of the first residential neighborhoods of New York City. Way back in 1700’s wealthy New Yorkers built homes and maintained gardens in what is now TriBeca.

Later in history it shifted from residential to warehouses, commerce and markets. After the Civil War, shipping hubs moved from the East River to the Hudson River and revitalized areas like the South Street Seaport and TriBeca. When shipping and commerce increased, the area soon became a favorite spot for wholesalers to store their goods in large industrial warehouses.

Just like its neighbor SoHo, TriBeCa boasts one of the world’s largest collections of wrought-iron facades and Neo-Grecian architecture.
