Property Description for 137 Decatur Street, 1

Prepare to be wowed! Behind the doors of this 19th Century, Queen Anne row house lies one of the most ethereal duplexes in Bed Stuy. Designer and artist Virginie Sommet completely reimagined the space leaving a surprise at every turn. Open and sun-filled, the parlor floor beautifully marries the old with the new, from the historic window moldings to the modern white oval pods that line the wall. Exposed beams and working brick fireplaces add warmth to the space. Hidden behind the delicately curved walls, you'll find a classic all-tiled bathroom with a double stand-alone sink and claw foot tub. In the parlor's rear, the sleek kitchen features custom cabinetry, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. The wow factor continues as the sliding glass doors along the back wall bring the outdoors in, immediately drawing you into the sounds of nature. As you enjoy your summer meals on the deck, follow the spiral staircase down to the tranquil french garden highlighting the natural pond/pool. The garden level is dedicated to the primary suite and office. Bright and airy, the dreamy bedroom is minimalist in design, showcasing elements of Victorian architecture along the walls with waist-high wainscotting and original window moldings. The office is spacious with a walk-in closet and full bathroom. This stunning home comes completely furnished and includes gardening and pool maintenance and weekly cleaning services. 137 Decatur Street sits on a tree-lined street and minutes away from Fulton Park, Peaches, Saraghina restaurant and bakery, Chez Oskar, the Michelin-reviewed L'Antagoniste, and more. The A/C train and multiple bus lines are a short walk away. This home has been featured in several publications such as New York Magazine Design Hunting, Curbed, and as well as NBC's Open House. Please check out the video for an inside view. *Short-term rental, 6-8 months *Landlord will cover 50% of the broker's fee

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
