Property Description for 1522 Putnam Ave, 1

A UNIQUE offering in Bushwick! Huge, gorgeous, turn of the 20th. Century (1901- Art Nouveau / Arts & Crafts Period style) architecture and interior appointments!

Approx. 1000 sqft, Unit #1 is a Flex 1-2 Bedroom (1BR) 1 Bathroom (1BA) and the entire parlour level of a traditional 'brownstone' style layout. This includes the original dining hall with built-in linen cabinets and dish cabinets galore (Bedroom #1), an auxiliary room or office space with even more built-in drawers, and a HUGE Living Room (or alternative Bedroom) that becomes showered in the afternoon light, courtesy of the expansive bay windows that truly accentuate the space.

This space is optimized for privacy with access to the eat-in kitchen, bathroom, and a massive walk-in closet/ storage area, vis-à-vis a commonly shared center hallway. Even throughout the halls of this home are tons of additional storage and built-ins unique to the period and style of this home. Outside a bicycle rack has been installed for added convenience!

The owner has spent a small fortune on a new & loving restoration of the apartment with original architectural appointments, inclusive of all original built-in oak sideboard, stained glass windows, and skylight, original herringbone parquet wood floors, cast iron tub on Ball & Claw feet with full shower surround, 12 foot high ceilings w/ coffer crossbeam ceilings and moldings, as well as, all new mechanical systems and security installed for the building. You really must come and see it to appreciate all of its charms!

The apartment is located on the 1st floor of a Brownstone/Townhouse that is 1 ½ blocks from the L & M train stop @ Myrtle & Wyckoff Aves., which is only 15 minutes into Manhattan. The home resides on a quiet, tree-lined street in a residential neighborhood with plentiful eateries, coffeehouses, (Starbucks @ the train entrance), and tons of shopping. The gorgeous Myrtle Ave shopping district is 1 block away and includes the Food Bazaar Supermarket (the largest in Brooklyn) within 1 block distance and 2 laundromats within 1 block of the building! Bushwick | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

As one of the most diverse neighborhoods in New York, Bushwick offers a perfect snapshot of just how multicultural the city is. Long-established as an amalgam of cultures and ethnicities, a wave of varying types of immigrants trickled in from the seventeenth to twentieth centuries, with Bushwick largely becoming a home to Hispanics of Puerto Rican and Dominican backgrounds by the latter part of the twentieth century.

With the Bushwick Initiative of the mid-00s that aided in revitalization, it became an attractive area to young professionals and artists. And even now, Bushwick has sustained affordable rent prices where other North Brooklyn counterparts, like Williamsburg and Greenpoint, have become more expensive. Priding itself on the weird and the wacky, numerous art collectives thrive in this part of Brooklyn, once famously named the seventh coolest neighborhood in the world by Vogue.

Though it has drawn in many tourists in recent years (there’s even a graffiti tour you can take from the Bushwick Collective), the neighborhood remains very much community-oriented, and has not been subject to quite the same sort of corporate infiltration phenomenon of its nearby Williamsburg environs.

But yes, of course, Bushwick has come a very long way from its 80s and 90s reputation as being “The Well,” a nickname given to it for its free-flowing and widely available amount of drugs (quantity over quality being the cliche applied here).
