Property Description for 585 Hancock Street

WELCOME TO 585 HANCOCK! This beautiful home has been stunningly renovated with all of its turn-of-the-century details thoughtfully preserved, including: artisan plaster and woodwork, handsome decorative fireplaces, and impressively carved newel posts and balusters. Oversized windows, soaring ceilings and clean sight lines stretching its full 42-foot depth allow sunshine to spill into every corner of this magnificent home.

The owner's duplex is luxurious and large with 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. The gorgeous open kitchen features a high-end appliance package, stone countertops and a wealth of cabinets. It steps out to a beautifully landscaped garden retreat overflowing with lush plantings, perennials and meadow-like florals including daffodils, tulips, irises and hydrangeas. The stunning fencing is rich Brazilian hardwood. Both bathrooms are pristine and a pretty mix of marble, classic subway tile and modern hardware. Upstairs is a freshly renovated, sweet and sunny apartment with 2 bedrooms and another bath. Keep it as a high-income rental or easily convert it into a grand single-family masterpiece!

Other features include split system a/c, a laundry room, great closet and storage space, rustic barn doors and curated light fixtures and pendants. The renovations have extended to the infrastructure with a new roof, updated fa ade and cornices and excellent mechanicals. 585 Hancock is nestled in the heart of the Stuyvesant Heights historical district with its stately brownstones, limestones and peaceful, lush, tree-lined streets. You're perfectly located near the express A/C trains and you have a wealth of destination cafes, shops and restaurants at your fingertips, including: L'Antagoniste, Chez Oscar, Peaches, Grandchamps and Therapy Wine Bar.

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
