Property Description for 36 Bleecker Street, 5-B

One of the premier homes at 36 Bleecker Street, Residence 5B is a grand, three-bedroom, three-and-a-half bathroom loft converted to an incredible two-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom with soaring ceilings and a one-of-a-kind corner layout in the building. Occupying the highest non-penthouse floor, two principal suites flank the living room featuring northern and eastern exposures across 15 windows, each with an en-suite bathroom and tree top views with incredible light. This is a unique opportunity for a discerning buyer in one of Manhattan’s most desirable and vibrant neighborhoods. With architecture and interiors by Morris Adjmi, Residence 5B combines restored prewar details and modern comforts to create a luxurious and character-filled home. The living and dining room, stretching over 23 feet, has 11’10” exposed brick barrel vaulted ceilings, the highest in the building, and 8 custom vaulted casement windows that do not exist on other floors. The home has fumed 7.5”-wide plank white oak floors, and cold rolled blackened steel accents throughout. The chef’s kitchen, which is open to the living room, is appointed with professional-level appliances from Wolf, Sub-Zero, and Miele. Both the countertops and backsplash are Calacatta marble, and a double-wide window floods the cooking space with natural light. Counter seating allows for comfortable casual dining, in addition to the formal dining area in the great room. Originally designed as a three-bedroom, the loft was converted by combining two previous bedrooms into one stately enclave. The northern suite has custom oversized closets occupying a windowed dressing room, seamlessly flowing to the bedroom or en suite bathroom. The five-fixture principal suite bathroom features marble throughout and cold-rolled blackened steel fixtures. A second principal suite, equally as grand, features a 12’ deep walk-in closet and a windowed en-suite bathroom with a built-in marble tub and stall shower. Rounding out the apartment is a full laundry room with a washer and dryer and additional closet space, and a grand entry gallery with ample wall space for any art collection. A large storage room is included with the sale. Formerly a celebrated 1885 Romanesque Revival-style print atelier, the Schumacher was re-envisioned to a full service luxury condominium with only 20 units. It is now recognized as the choice building downtown, with handsome character and guarded with well-practiced discretion, for discerning buyers seeking a private living environment. Amenities include 24/7 doorman concierge, fitness center, children’s playroom, a serene roof deck, and rotating museum quality art collection in the lobby.

Noho | Manhattan

Quick Profile

NoHo, an acronym for North of Houston, is a trendy neighborhood with expansive lofts, chic shops, and hip eateries. It was once part of Greenwich Village, but as New York City changes and coolness always redefines itself, the neighborhood, which is more like a small nook, has morphed into a happening secession of its own.

Like many New York City neighborhoods, the boundaries are subjective and the exact location always depends on who you ask. Generally, NoHo is understood to be bounded by East Eighth Street to the north, East Houston Street to the south, Bowery Street to the east (which becomes Cooper Square north of East Fourth Street), and Broadway to the west.

It’s hard to believe that NoHo was once a sketchy no-man’s land with more than its share of dilapidated structures. These gentrified days, it’s a healthy mix of older buildings, renovated warehouses and newer construction by iconic architects. For such a small area, NoHo has three historic districts that cover much of the neighborhood.

Broadway, Bowery, and Lafayette is the business district of the neighborhood. You’ll find it all in this neck of the woods. From trendy one of a kind retailers to popular brand stores. It rivals its SoHo neighbor in places to shop.

Architecture buffs get your walking shoes on. There are many historical and modern buildings throughout the neighborhood. Colonnade Row, the Cable Building, and the Schermerhorn Building are just a few of the many notable buildings you’ll find.
