Property Description for 185 Plymouth Street, 4-S

One of the most highly coveted and expansive DUMBO lofts can finally be yours. A keyed private elevator opens directly into this massive 3,300 square foot loft. Featured in multiple publications, including Architectural Digest, the original timber beams and exposed brick walls are juxtaposed with a wall of glass windows, oak floors, and a modern kitchen. The sprawling, sunny living room at 45 feet wide allows for several distinct sitting areas and configurations to satisfy any and all living and entertainment needs. The kitchen boasts custom Italian cabinetry with generous storage, paneled Sub-Zero fridge and freezer, Bosch dishwasher, oven, and stovetop with retractable range hood. Just off the kitchen is your private outdoor deck where you can soak up the sun and views of the East River and Manhattan. Currently configured with three bedrooms, this loft can easily be converted to a four or even five-bedroom home. The oversized primary suite includes original exposed brick walls, a bedroom-sized walk-in closet, and a stunningly chic bathroom with a double-vanity with marble countertops, Waterworks fixtures, and an oversized shower stall with a Drummonds soaking tub. The other bedroom spaces all feature exposed brick, large industrial windows, and generous closets as well. Marble countertops and Waterworks fixtures are found in the other bathrooms, and Forbes and Lomax light switches are used throughout the home. Other details include two in-unit storage rooms, custom closets, and a laundry room with oversized vented washer and dryer. There is a fully integrated sound system, multi-zone central A/C, and industrial finned tubed hot water heating. 185 Plymouth was developed by acclaimed developer, Alloy. The building was a turn of the century Brillo factory that was converted to a luxury 10-unit condominium in 2014. The building offers a large gym with Peleton bike, Peleton treadmill, rowing machine, and weight equipment as well as a bike room, package room, and 24/7 virtual doorman.

Dumbo | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

DUMBO, which is an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass, used to be a lively industrial and manufacturing zone, full of large factories and warehouses. These buildings have now been converted into expansive lofts, theaters, galleries, and office spaces for start-up companies. These larger residential spaces are attractive to families and creative artists and writers who need space to dream and create.

DUMBO was named in 1978 as a sort of reverse marketing ploy to try to keep people from swarming into the area, attracted by the quaint tree-lined streets, elegant historic brownstones, large lofts, and views of Lower Manhattan. It was felt that this influx of people would change the nature of the neighborhood. It was hoped that by giving the area a ridiculous name, nobody would want to live there.

Many of the neighborhood’s bars, hotels, and restaurants capitalize on the stunning waterfront views and the Manhattan skyline in the background. Interesting and fun cultural events are held under and around the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges that connect DUMBO to Manhattan. One of these is the annual Oktoberfest.

With beautiful vignettes of the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges being framed around every corner, DUMBO provides residents and tourists with charming, and often surprising, views. Because the neighborhood is eminently walkable and filled with unique shops, it feels like a small town on the edge of a major urban waterfront. Once people move to DUMBO, they tend to stay and become involved in the community.
