Property Description for 1428 Sterling Place

This beautiful 2-family limestone townhouse in Crown Heights has modern mechanicals but still retains all of its historical charm. Step inside from the classic front stoop to find an original stained-glass window, high ceilings, hardwood floors, 6-panel doors and miles of custom millwork. Head down to the completely finished lower level, which has a rec room, a full bathroom, storage space, a bonus room as well as a full utility room. This level also has a separate entrance, so with some creativity, it has potential as a future short-term rental. Back on the main-level, the 1-bedroom unit is flooded with natural light. The enormous bedroom at the front of the home has plenty of room for an office or workout area, plus there’s a bay window overlooking the tree-lined street. The rest of the unit includes coffered ceilings, chandeliers and hardwood floors with lovely inlays. Your spacious kitchen is open to the living room and features stainless steel appliances and a tile backsplash, plus a huge peninsula with pendant lights & bar-top seating. There’s even a convenient laundry area just off the kitchen. The bright top-floor unit includes 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom & a BONUS separate office. This unit has all of the same historic details found throughout the rest of the building (picture rails, coffered ceilings, original millwork) plus tons of closet space. Looking for outdoor space? This home has a fantastic & low-maintenance backyard. The fence is lined with raised garden beds, and there’s plenty of room on the paved patio to dine and entertain. What a location! You have dining and shopping options in every direction, with schools, parks, gardens and hospitals close by. You are also only a few short bus stops away from the 2,3 A&C trains

Crown Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Originally known as Crown Hill by the Lenape Indians that lived there, Crown Heights has evolved into a diverse neighborhood, occupied primarily by Hasidic Jews and one of the largest Caribbean populations to be found anywhere outside of the West Indies.

Head over to Nostrand Avenue, one of the main West Indian commercial areas in the neighborhood, which is lined with stores that have been in those exact same places for generations, providing their goods and services to area residents. Kingston Avenue has similar commercial activities that support the Jewish community, and Franklin Avenue shows the most signs of change and gentrification, with an ever-expanding mix of yoga studios, coffee shops, and organic grocery stores that serve the influx of young professionals. No matter which of these areas you visit, you will find an interesting mix of businesses that you wouldn’t normally picture as existing side-by-side. It is all part of the cultural diversity of Crown Heights.

The neighborhood is bisected, from east to west, by Eastern Parkway, which is a beautiful, 3-mile-long boulevard lined with mature trees. This leafy oasis was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, famed designer of Central Park, the Biltmore Estate in North Carolina, and the U. S. Capitol in Washington, D. C.

You will find a mix of low-rise apartment buildings, large middle-class elevator buildings, brownstones, and some luxury buildings. Century-old architecture stands next to modern residential developments in a visually interesting mix of styles, much as the diversity of the residents exists. People who would not normally meet and mix are forging new pathways to cultural understanding by working, living, and playing together in the same neighborhood.
