Property Description for 410 Decatur Street

Beautifully renovated from top to bottom, this impeccably designed, light-filled Stuyvesant Heights two-family townhouse is filled with custom details throughout, creating a modern feel within a classic brownstone.

With a delightfully landscaped, extra deep front garden, complete with stone pavers, a Dogwood tree, and garden beds, this 20' wide home is uniquely offset high above the street. With a lovely brownstone facade and new, oversized windows, the curb appeal is unquestionable. Enter the upper duplex up the stoop which leads into the expansive "great room." Southern light streams in through three large windows in the back of the house, while the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room bathe the space in light and offer a lovely view of the trees outside and the townhomes beyond. The decorative marble fireplace serves as focal point of the living room, while deep built-in shelving, fashioned from reclaimed wood, provide a gorgeous home for your favorite collectibles.

With plenty of space for dining, the open living area leads to the smartly designed kitchen. Stainless steel appliances, Caesarstone counters, subway tile, a deep farm sink, and a center island make for easy cooking and entertaining. A huge walk-in pantry provides all the storage you'll need, while the stacked washer/dryer is smartly tucked behind. The charming powder room has a custom-designed vanity made of salvaged wood and boasts a modern industrial vibe. Right outside the kitchen door, the large deck provides a perfect place to enjoy morning coffee or to dine al fresco and leads to the deep backyard. With a paved dining area and easy-to-maintain turf, the backyard offers tons of space to relax and to play.

As you walk up the stairs from the parlor to the second floor, you'll be struck by the incredible ceiling height and remarkable light. With a skylight in every room, including the bathrooms, light abounds. Unlike a more typical brownstone layout, both bedrooms at the front of the house are equal in size with two large windows, a spacious closet and ceiling heights of 11 ft. The main bath is bright and cheery with a pedestal sink, a deep soaking tub and modern finishes and fixtures. The king-sized primary bedroom is a quiet oasis overlooking the backyard. With custom live-edge solid wood built-in shelving framing the bed, a windowed walk-in closet and en suite bath featuring a custom concrete vanity, Watermark fixtures, and a luxurious walk-in shower with hand hewn tile.

On the garden level of this special home is a two-bedroom, one-bath apartment. With stainless steel appliances and plenty of work and storage space, the kitchen is brand new. There is ample space for a dining area and living room, while both bedrooms are roomy and bright. The bathroom has a deep tub, subway tile, and chrome fixtures. Easily accessed from the parlor level, but with a private entrance as well, this lovely apartment could garner sizable rent, or be incorporated into the upper unit.

Throughout this terrific home you'll find central air, wide plank oak floors, custom shades and blinds, and high ceilings. On a lovely tree-lined block, 410 Decatur is a quick jaunt to the A/C train at Utica (5 blocks) and surrounded by great restaurants and shops-a block from Chez Oskar and Nana Ramen and around the corner from coffee at Milk and Pull Bed Stuy. L'Antagoniste, Turtles all the way down, Saraghina and Trad Room are close by too. The location is fabulous!

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
