Property Description for 64 Macon Street, 1

Incredible Renovated Townhouse Duplex on Macon Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant

Offered for rent is a spectacular garden & parlor duplex in an 1887 Queen Anne townhouse in the Bedford Historic District. Extremely rare for a townhouse, this particular enjoys three exposures, and Garden Apartment has access to a private driveway and garage. The apartment's approximately 2,700 interior square feet includes a total of 7 bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms.

The parlor floor is home to a large, open living and dining area with open kitchen and views over townhouse gardens. Branching off this central space, there are four bedroom suites (all with private bathrooms), including a primary bedroom with large closet and private terrace. Also located on the parlor floor is a powder room, large storage area, and washer/dryer. With nearly 11' ceilings, the upper floor of this duplex enjoys the voluminous and historic proportions with tranquil views.

The garden floor offers another three bedrooms and three more bathrooms, including a full guest suite, self-contained and separate rest of the apartment. The guest suite has a private entrance, private kitchen, and even its own combo washer/dryer unit. This area would also make for a great recreation space. Additionally, there are two access points from the lower level to the rear garden and driveway.

Tenants of the Garden Apartment at 64 Macon Street also enjoy access to a private driveway with curb cut and one-car garage. The driveway can easily accommodate two to three cars, with an additional car in the garage.

Modern amenities include central/split air conditioning, fully renovated bathrooms and two kitchens, and two sets of washer & dryers.

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
