Property Description for 399 Washington Street, 4

Spectacular original details meet chic designer style in this beautifully renovated two-bedroom loft with large den and two bathrooms in a historic Tribeca boutique cooperative. Spanning approximately 1,700 square feet, this phenomenal residence makes a dramatic first impression with ceilings that soar 10 feet tall over beautiful hardwood floors and massive windows. Swaths of exposed brick are juxtaposed with sleek designer lighting and whimsical wall coverings. Keyed elevator access delivers you directly to the beautiful living room featuring a generous footprint for seating and dining areas and western outlooks over the district's historic loft buildings. The all-new kitchen impresses with Ornare cabinets and Ann Sachs tile surrounding a fleet of stainless steel appliances by Bosch, GE and LG. Down the long gallery, you'll find rows of built-in shelving and pocket doors that reveal two spacious interior rooms with closets, perfect for guest, fitness, media room and home office use. At the end of the hall, a serene owners' suite features a stunning spa bathroom with a walk-in shower, jetted soaking tub and beautiful floor-to-ceiling tile. The second full bathroom is finished with a shower, pedestal sink and contemporary fixtures. This home's exceptional storage space includes a walk-in closet off the elevator, two hall closets and a deeded basement storage unit. Central air and an in-unit washer and dryer complete this impeccable Tribeca offering. Constructed in 1888, 399 Washington is a cast-iron and brick store-and-loft building constructed for Max Ams, a prominent German wholesaler who owned several buildings in the Tribeca North Historic District. Converted to residential use in 1988, residents of the pet-friendly, four-unit cooperative enjoy low maintenance, a fully modernized elevator, an updated lobby and entry, central HVAC with newer boiler and condenser, basement storage, local management and superintendent service. Ideally located in just one block from 500-acre Hudson River Park, this home offers direct access to some of the city's best recreation and outdoor space, including Piers 25 and 26, City Winery, bike and running paths, playgrounds, a skatepark, beach volleyball and basketball courts, a dog run and more. Tribeca's revered shopping, nightlife and dining venues unfold on the nearby blocks, and Hudson Square's media and advertising offices are minutes away. Access to transportation is fantastic with 1, A/C/E and N/Q/R/W trains, excellent bus service and CitiBike stations all within reach. Capital contribution of equal 2 months common charges paid by the buyer.

Quick Profile

TriBeCa, named after the small geographic triangle below Canal Street. It’s not really a triangle, it's a quadrilateral and it's bounded by West Street, Broadway, and Chambers Street. It’s a little too late for a name change and besides, QuaBeCa doesn't sound half as cool as Tribeca.

One of New York City’s more notable acronymed neighborhoods, TriBeCa is known for its trendy boutiques, fabolous restaurants, historical landmarks, and resident celebrity lofts. It still holds the title of one of the coolest places to live in New York City.

TriBeCa is one of the first residential neighborhoods of New York City. Way back in 1700’s wealthy New Yorkers built homes and maintained gardens in what is now TriBeca.

Later in history it shifted from residential to warehouses, commerce and markets. After the Civil War, shipping hubs moved from the East River to the Hudson River and revitalized areas like the South Street Seaport and TriBeca. When shipping and commerce increased, the area soon became a favorite spot for wholesalers to store their goods in large industrial warehouses.

Just like its neighbor SoHo, TriBeCa boasts one of the world’s largest collections of wrought-iron facades and Neo-Grecian architecture.
