Property Description for 34-47 80th Street, 41

Make your forever home in this beautiful four-bedroom/two bathroom apartment at the legendary Chateau, the landmarked, pre-war masterpiece designed by Andrew J. Thomas. This fourth floor home has been renovated in every important way to provide modern conveniences while preserving the pre-war details that make it so special. The living and dining rooms flow together creating a large open space that is ideal for entertaining. The living room features the original wood-burning fireplace and built-ins, and together, there are five oversized windows with western and northern exposures for brilliant sunlight, recessed radiators to provide more floor space and freshly skim-coated walls. Pre-war details abound with inlaid hardwood floors, 9’ ceilings and completely restored windows that work. Storage will never be an issue with seven closets including a large walk-in closet in the primary bedroom featuring special shoe storage. The entire apartment has fully upgraded plumbing and electrical. All the ceiling lights are low voltage and the entire space is cable ready. The renovated kitchen has a garden facing window and features stainless steel appliances including a double oven, an ice maker in the café-doored refrigerator, a vented oven through the kitchen chimney and a Franke faucet for filtered, on-demand hot and cold water. In all, there are four generously-scaled bedrooms. The king-sized primary bedroom features two exposures (eastern and northern), an ensuite bathroom with a new shower stall and a newly-designed walk-in closet. The secondary bedroom is nearly as large and offers two exposures (eastern and southern) and a good-sized closet. A third bedroom features a large north-facing window, and currently serves as a comfortable den with two sofas. The Queen-sized fourth bedroom has an east-facing window and a closet. A second renovated full bathroom with a bathtub is adjacent. This elevator building has a live-in super, laundry in the basement and two 4’ x 6’ storage spaces for each unit at no extra charge. A 25% down payment is required. No subletting allowed. No flip tax. Pets allowed upon board review and approval. The Chateau has begun a garden restoration project to enhance and update the nearly block-long private garden and the assessment has been paid by the current owner. Jackson Heights is consistently mentioned among New York City’s top dining destinations. This diverse and vibrant neighborhood is filled with tree-lined streets and pre-war buildings. Multiple express and local train lines serve this community and it offers easy airport access to La Guardia and JFK Airports. Travers Park and the 34th St Paseo Park add to its outdoor charms along with the weekly Sunday green market.

Jackson Heights | Queens

Quick Profile

Jackson Heights has one of the most diverse populations in the city, and over 100 languages are spoken here. With this cultural diversity comes supporting restaurants, bars, shops and cultural opportunities. It is a mix of commercial and residential properties. There is a wide range of shops and service businesses, so that anything you would need, from a barber, to a pharmacy, to clothing, and food is available right in the neighborhood, no matter which culture or language you might need these services provided in.

Jackson Heights has three nicknames, based on micro-neighborhoods with the neighborhood as a whole. Little India occupies an area on 74th Street, while parts of 73rd Street are known as Little Pakistan. Little Columbia is along 37th Avenue.

A large portion of Jackson Heights has been designated as an historic district, from Roosevelt Avenue to Northern Boulevard, between the east side of 76th Street to the west side of 88th Street.

Jackson Heights was a planned community, where the first “garden apartments” were created in buildings constructed around central gardens and green spaces that gave neighbors a place to meet and socialize with one another, created places for children to play, allowing light to come into the apartments and air to flow freely through them. These gardens are private and only residents have access to them. Passing by the buildings, you might not even guess the gardens were there, as they are not generally visible from the street.

Additionally, there are some mid-rise apartment buildings. Some of these are rentals, some are co-ops, and some are condos. There are a few attached row houses that provide housing for one to three families.

As much as Jackson Heights might be full of noise and mix of cultures, it also has a quieter side, where the various cultures mix and mingle and learn about each other against a backdrop of beautiful architecture and a culinary landscape that brings the world to Queens.
