This immaculate full-floor Chelsea apartment in a handsome prewar building will instantly impress with its expansive living space, fabulous city views, and brilliant light pouring in from oversized casement windows on all four exposures. A 46’-long gallery separates the grand living-entertaining areas from the private sleeping quarters and is a central point of elegance with generous wall space for hanging art. Five bedrooms, 5 and a half baths, a separate den/study, and a private home office afford all the comforts of a true home for every need. A keyed elevator opens to an inviting foyer, spilling into voluminous open-concept living and dining rooms for seamlessly hosting guests. High airy ceilings, gorgeous French limestone floors, striking columns, a wall of huge east-facing casement windows, and built-in bookshelves accent the ambience. The spacious, sunny contemporary kitchen serves as inspiration for the chef offering abundant custom cabinetry, sleek countertops, a large island with storage, and premium appliances including a Viking range and double oven, 2 side-by-side Sub-Zero refrigerator-freezers, a built-in Miele espresso machine, and 2 Miele dishwashers for easy cleanup. A windowed banquette area provides comfortable seating for coffee and casual meals. Nearby is a convenient wine room with 2 Sub-Zero wine fridges for storing 200+ bottles, and a laundry room with dual Maytag washer-dryers. Beyond awaits a closet-lined hallway accessing 2 smaller en-suite bedrooms. This hall connects to the west wing of the residence with a second elevator bank which houses 2 additional en-suite bedrooms, a den/study/media room, storage room, and private office. The real highlight is the divine king-size primary retreat, the ultimate place to unwind, brightened by a big southern window. A wall of closets in the bedroom is complemented by an incredible custom-outfitted dressing room. Pamper yourself in the en-suite windowed spa-like bath with double sinks, a walk-in steam shower, and toilet room. This exceptional loft-like home in the heart of Chelsea rests in the boutique City Prairie condominium, built in 1910 as a warehouse and converted to 11 luxury units in 1997. The building has a doorman, central AC, and a prime location near great shops, restaurants, The Highline, art galleries, and 1, C, E, M and F subway lines. Pets are allowed.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
