Property Description for 1 Arlington Place

Arlington Place is a prized one-block enclave within the Bedford Historic District.

One Arlington Place is the cornerstone of the block and crown jewel to a row of 19th century homes by renowned architect George Poole Chappell. The unique location provides 270-degree views of some of Bed-Stuy's finest townhouses.

This 1887 Renaissance Revival row house features a classically-inspired main entrance, historic iron stoop railings, and stained-glass upper sashes. This two-family home is currently configured as an owner's quadplex with a rear one-bedroom garden apartment. Standing proudly on the corner of this special street, One Arlington exudes historic charm and has been lovingly maintained.

Entering the parlor floor with 11' ceilings and stunning original moldings, one immediately notices the unique quality of the corner location, allowing for abundant light to stream in from three exposures and the rear triple bay windows. There is a simultaneous feeling of privacy and expansiveness. The open kitchen/dining room enjoys a working fireplace, and leads to a surprisingly private garden, providing tree shade in the summer and open sky in the winter.

The second and third floor are graced with the same triple bay windows and natural light from three exposures. The second-floor bathroom has been masterfully renovated. This floor is currently being used a luxurious primary suite with two decorative fireplaces and a pass-through walk-in closet that leads to the rear sitting room/home office.

The top floor has two well-proportioned bedrooms with high ceilings and a bonus room that is currently used as a home gym. The roof has skyline views and offers the possibility of an extraordinary roof-deck. The front portion of the garden level is allocated to the owner's unit and is a perfect home office/library/den. The rear garden unit is a lovely one-bedroom apartment with a private entrance and outdoor space on Halsey that provides excellent rental income or a very private office/home business.

One Arlington is a magical piece of Brooklyn's architectural history. The current owners have loved this home and updated as they live there. The next stewards of this property have the opportunity to reveal all the glory of this beautiful home or use as-is.Nestled into a private block, One Arlington remains proximate to the A, C train, Clementine Bakery, Hart's, Saraghina and the multitude of restaurants, cafes, music venues and shopping this culturally rich neighborhood has to offer.

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
