Property Description for 734 Lafayette Ave

Bright, cheerful, thoughtfully laid-out with unusually high ceilings, 734 Lafayette lies half a black from Von King Park. The largest park in Bed-Stuy, Von King Park is home to the newly renovated Von King Cultural Center which hosts classes and events for kids and adults alike. The park also boasts a popular playground and a large dog run. Enter up your broad bluestone-topped stoop and into your very own foyer/mudroom with a spacious coat closet (too often left out of open plan layouts). Inside there's an airy living/dining/kitchen space with a lovely powder room and extra storage tucked under the stairs. Facing south, the kitchen windows let in lots of sunshine and look out on your large deck and spacious, lovingly maintained backyard. The magnolia tree is super special and help keep things private. Upstairs there are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and laundry--all with fabulously high ceilings. The cellar is finished and used as a home office and storage area by the current owners; they have a private entrance from the garden as well as access under the stoop. The garden level unit has a market rate tenant in place with a lease through October 2023. Many updates have been made throughout the house. There is central air with zones on each floor, extra waterproofing that was done to keep the cellar nice and dry, and special touches throughout the home. Ask me about parking!

Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
