Property Description for 359 Dean Street

Own a piece of historic Brooklyn with this impeccably maintained two-family home in Boerum Hill. This 20’ wide townhouse allows for approximately 2,800 square feet of living space (not including the cellar) and almost 1,400 square feet of outdoor space. It is a legal two-family, with a total of five bedrooms and four bathrooms. The parlor floor apartment is currently set up as a one bedroom primary suite downstairs, which could be configured back into two bedrooms with ease. On the upper two floors, you will find an immaculate three bedroom, two bathroom apartment perfect for living, renting, or even combining into a single-family home if desired. 359 Dean street is an absolute gem. As you enter through the impressive front door made with African Mahogany, you will find pre-civil war details abound, natural wide-plank pine wood floors, high ceilings with classic plaster moldings, functioning pocket doors and five exquisite marble mantles, three of which are gas fired. With windows everywhere and the front of the property facing South, you will enjoy an abundance of light all day long. As you move through the parlor floor apartment, the kitchen opens out onto one of the two decks which overlook the rear landscaped garden. A truly magical space when the leaves are in bloom and utterly charming when lit up in the evening hours. The primary suite downstairs currently has the bedroom at the rear of the house with a door that leads straight out into the garden. Towards the front of the house, there is a living room with a cozy gas fireplace and even more beautiful, oversized windows allowing light to flood the space throughout the day. This apartment uses high-velocity forced air to cool throughout and the whole building has radiator heat. One floor down, you'll find an immaculate cellar with a laundry room, approximately 7’ ceilings and a ton of extra usable space. There is also a sprinkler system throughout the home. The second floor apartment is absolutely stunning. The completely renovated kitchen boasts granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and ceramic tile floors. The oversized floor-to-ceiling kitchen window and door opens out onto the second of the two decks, again overlooking the garden and cityscape. The bathroom has a tub, ceramic tiling and a Bosch washer/dryer conveniently located right next to it. Ceiling fans and split A/C units make cooling this beautiful space in the hot summer months a breeze. This upper level apartment has an expansive living space with two stunning marble mantles and an alcove area which is currently being used as an office. As you move up to the third floor, you will find an impeccably renovated marble tiled bathroom, two large, nearly equally sized bedrooms and a smaller third bedroom, which could be used as a nursery or an office. Considered a village in the city, Boerum Hill offers the best of all worlds. The transport hub is like none other with nine subway lines and the LIRR right around the corner. You have the Barclays Center, BAM multi-arts center, an Apple Store and Whole Foods, while also having an exciting dining scene with restaurants such as Rucolah on Dean street and Convivium Osteria on 5th Avenue. Both worldly and homey, Boerum Hill offers a sense of community while also being in the center of it all!

Boerum Hill | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Boerum Hill is a tiny, quiet, primarily residential neighborhood in Brooklyn. There are broad tree-lined streets that are filled with elegant three and four-story brownstones and townhouses, mostly built between 1840 and 1870. There is a definite family vibe to the neighborhood, but young professionals are moving in, and with them are coming trendy bars to cater to their desire for some measure of nightlife, without having to linger in Manhattan. These new bars and restaurants are being sandwiched in amongst existing shops on both Atlantic Avenue and Smith Street, which are the main commercial areas in Boerum Hill.

Boerum Hill offers a convenient location that is still able to maintain its small-neighborhood feel. Shopkeepers value their customers and remember their regulars. It continues to do what it was designed to do, namely provide small-town living in the very shadow of the big city. Boerum Hill is an easy commute to other parts of the city, making it easy to come home every day to the peace and tranquility of Boerum Hill while commuting to a job anywhere in the city.

The neighborhood is quite walkable and you can take the time to catch up with your neighbors while visiting on their stoops. Shopping on Atlantic Avenue is stress-free with no high pressure. You can meet with friends at any of the many coffee shops and while away pleasant hours in conversation. The dining scene on Smith Street is similarly laid-back. Don’t expect that there will be quite as much to see or do as there is in Manhattan, but there are a decent number of interesting bars and restaurants providing a measure of nightlife. The trade-off is worth it, as Boerum Hill provides a quiet, peaceful place to live and raise a family.
