Property Description for 233 West 26th Street, 5-W

Live luxuriously in this beautiful 2/3 bedroom 2 bathroom Chelsea loft, located in an intimate, established 20-unit co-op with only 2 apartments per floor! Residence 5W boasts 2,000+/- sq ft of thoughtfully-designed interiors that were impeccably gut-renovated in 2017 with the finest finishes, new floors, and top-quality materials throughout. Oversized windows facing south and north invite in generous natural light all day, plus there’s a third exposure to the west in the corner second bedroom. A keyed elevator transports you to your home, arriving at a central entry foyer. Entertain and relax in the gracious, generously-sized living room with airy 10’4” beamed ceilings and plenty of wall space for hanging art. As part of the renovation, the living room was expanded to eliminate one of the bedrooms, but it can easily be converted back to a 3-bedroom layout if desired. The large open dining room adjoins and affords a seamless flow for the host when serving meals. As impressive is the new state-of-the-art open kitchen, a modern chef’s dream equipped with abundant custom cabinetry, stone countertops, an island/breakfast bar, and premium appliances including a Wolf stove and double ovens, a vented range hood, Sub-Zero refrigerator, Miele dishwasher and Wine Fridge. Off the living area is a huge walk-in closet (5’x13’5”), currently used for storage. Past the kitchen in the hall is a high-end renovated full bathroom with heated floors and Duravit fixtures, and the sleeping quarters beyond. The primary bedroom is a perfect place to unwind, featuring an enormous custom built-out walk-in dressing closet with a full-sized vented washer-dryer, and a stunning en-suite bathroom with heated floors, dual sinks, Duravit fixtures and a steam shower. 5W is also fully wired for sound and offers central air conditioning. Built in 1910 and converted to a co-op in 1985, 233 West 26th Street is a 9-story pet-friendly building with a video intercom, common laundry room, and lovely new landscaped roof deck with lounge furniture, dining areas and a BBQ grill. Among the other recent improvements are a new hot water system (2023), new lobby(2022) and new entrance way to be completed in 2023 with planned virtual doorman, new boiler and cooking gas lines (2022), waterproofing (2022), facade work (2022), and a new elevator (2019). A 4-year assessment of $750/month commenced on 2/1/2023 to pay for these improvements. Maintenance of $3,075/month includes real estate taxes. Best of all is the outstanding location between 7th and 8th Avenues, only one block from Whole Foods, minutes to the High Line and many excellent restaurants, shops and art galleries of vibrant West Chelsea.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
