Property Description for 185 Saint Marks Ave, 1-R

Welcome home to this lovely two bed, two bath apartment with your own backyard oasis! It's location on the parlor level of the building provides the perfect combination of first floor convenience, and parlor height ceilings, while still offering the privacy and light that comes from being up the stoop from street level. The sun-drenched living room features a lovely bay window and perfect Prospect Heights views, while a separate dining area off the kitchen ensures you'll have plenty of room to entertain. The renovated, windowed, kitchen features an abundance of custom cabinets, including double height cabinets stretching all the way to the ceiling and a full pantry with convenient pull out drawers within. There is also a suite of full sized, stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher, an attractive tile backsplash and under cabinet lighting. A storage closet adjacent to the kitchen makes sure you have a place for everything.

Down the hall is one of two full bathrooms, again with lots of built in storage, a nice sized vanity and a shower tub combo. Continuing down the hall is the first bedroom. It is well sized, and would also make a perfect home office/guest room. At the end of the hall the spacious primary bedroom is nestled quietly at the back of the home, complete with an en suite bathroom and walk in closet beyond. The well designed en suite bathroom features a stall shower and large vanity with ample storage, as well as a separate W/C room. Two large closets are at the back of the space, one with custom built shelving, drawers and rods for hanging shirts and pants and the other with one rod for hanging longer items.

The primary bedroom also features quaint french doors with stairs leading down to your very own outdoor oasis! The oversized backyard is 43' deep and 650 sqft in total, with a front patio ready for your next BBQ, and a winding garden inviting your green thumb to blossom! As if all of that were not enough, the apartment also comes with a large, and private 10' x 8' storage room with 8' heigh ceilings ensuring you have a place for everything! Handsome and pristine hardwood floors are found throughout, as are original moldings and other charming prewar touches.

185 St. Mark's Avenue is a small, self managed, eight unit co-op, located on a picturesque tree lined street in prime Prospect Heights. Residents enjoy private storage units and a spacious and windowed laundry room in the basement with easy interior access. There is also additional bike storage with easy, direct access to the street via the front basement entrance. The low maintenance of $895 includes heat and hot water, as well as a porter who takes care of garbage, snow shoveling and light custodial work in the common areas. Cats are welcome, but sorry, no dogs.

It's location is truly ideal as you are smack in the middle of all that Vanderbilt has to offer, as well as the best of Flatbush a mere block and a half away. Destination dining and drinking establishments abound, such as Olmstead, Patti Anne's, Petite Patate, Faun, LaLou, Weather Up, BierWax, The Nuaa Table, Alta Calidad, Chucko, Sofreh, Morgan's BBQ, Sweet Polly and Pecking House (to name a few) all with in a three block radius. Grand Army Plaza is a mere 4 blocks away with its fabulous Farmer's Market, entrance to Prospect Park, Brooklyn Central Library, and the 2/3 train. Or catch the B or Q just 3 blocks away at Flatbush and 7th Avenue. Of course, Barclay's Center with full train access and the LIRR is also a super convenient 5 blocks from your door.

Prospect Heights | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Prospect Heights is a small residential neighborhood surrounded by big attractions. It’s rich in culture and offers the perfect blend of old Brooklyn charm and modern-day hipness.

Residents of this tight-knit community include young professionals, families and long-time residents. It’s a walkers paradise - just steps from Prospect Park and a short walking distance to neighborhoods like Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Green and Clinton. You’re close to culture too. Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Library, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Barclays Center are all nearby.

Prospect Heights is bordered by Flatbush Avenue to the west, Washington Avenue to the east, Atlantic Avenue and Dean Street to the north and Eastern Parkway to the south.

Prospect Heights, like many areas of New York City, was first inhabited by indigenous tribes and eventually settled by the Dutch and turned into farmland.

A significant part of the Revolutionary War was fought in Prospect Heights and the surrounding areas. Known as the Battle of Brooklyn, it was the first military engagement following the Declaration of Independence. Things didn’t go so well for American forces so they retreated and the British occupied Manhattan for several years after the Battle of Brooklyn.

In 1867, the opening of Prospect Park caused major housing growth in Prospect Heights. The middle-class neighborhood was soon populated by Jewish, Italian, and Irish workers. Many of which were shop-owners or employed as laborers in nearby factories.

Housing in Prospect Heights includes single-family row houses, historic townhouses, co-ops, and new luxury condos. The median listed price for a 1-bedroom in Prospect Heights is $680,000 with an average price per square foot is $944.

The neighborhood's commercial artery runs along Vanderbilt Avenue and Washington Avenue. The variety of businesses adds to the charm of the neighborhood. They include bars, pubs, restaurants and mom-and-pop stores of all types. The shops and eateries are a perfect alternative to the big-name attractions that bracket the neighborhood. It's a little bit of everything in this neighborhood.

Subways are plentiful in Prospect Heights. Its proximity to Manhattan is another perk of the neighborhood. It's about a half-hour train ride. The B, D, N, Q, R, 2, 3, 4 and 5 subway lines all serve the Atlantic Avenue/Barclays Center station. 2, 3, 4, B and Q trains cover the neighborhood and the A and C trains are nearby too.
