Property Description for 601 79th Street, D-4

This Bay Ridge beauty ticks off every item on your wishlist: marvelous space, multi-directional light, ample storage (five deep closets!) and pristine pre-war details: gorgeous arches, hardwood floors with inlaid patterning, original doors and crystal doorknobs – and a layout ideal for living, working, entertaining and enjoying. This is the pre-war ideal amplified: a separate eat-in kitchen (with a fabulously fun chalkboard wall) benefits from a second window, bringing in light from two directions. You'll never lack for counter space or cabinet space, and a full-size dishwasher makes cleaning up dinner parties a snap. The bathroom is old-school without being old: a new pedestal sink and vanity match to the cast-iron tub — all classic designs, all enduring, with a window for ventilation (don't we love a windowed bathroom?) and a linen closet just outside the door. The bedroom is more than king-sized: you can have the biggest bed on the market and still have room for a seating area, bureaus and credenzas, a home office or home gym. The living room and entry foyer (sized to be a dining room, library, or home office) barely need description: you can see how intuitive the flow is and how ample the space. What you may not be able to see from the photos is that the windows in the living room and bedroom both give onto the quiet alley between buildings – no street noise – and on the fourth floor, you're the first to clear the neighboring buildings, giving you peaceful views of treetops and open skies. The feeling of serenity can't be beat; but it can be matched by the ease of a pet-friendly elevator/laundry building and the convenience of living just off the entrance to 278, with easy access to Dan Ross Playground and McKinley Park. Believe us: it's even sweeter in person. Showings begin now!

Bay Ridge | Brooklyn

Lush front yards and trimmed hedges are pretty common in Bay Ridge.

Quick Profile

Bay Ridge is an old-world neighborhood neatly tucked into the southwest corner of Brooklyn within the shadows of the Verrazano Bridge. The neighborhood is encircled by the Belt Parkway along the shore line and the Gowanus Expressway inland.

Bay Ridge, long known for its generational pull, has historically been home to a diverse number of ethnic groups. While the area is flush with people of Irish, Italian and Greek descent, these ethnic communities have been joined by larger numbers of new groups, including people with Russian, Polish, Asian and Middle Eastern backgrounds. The Arab American community today in Bay Ridge represents the largest concentration of Arab Americans in New York City.

For many years, Bay Ridge and its waterside location, would attract the affluent. But most of the mansions that once lined Shore Road are long gone and have been replaced by six-story apartment buildings.

Aside from the low-rise apartment buildings, the neighborhood pretty much consists of one and two-family homes. Lush front yards and trimmed hedges are pretty common here.

Current zoning and limitations on building heights restrict any out of the norm development. At present, the future beholds small development on some of the commercial strips and teardowns of older homes for smaller residential projects.
