Property Description for 167 Putnam Ave

Welcome to your picture-perfect townhome in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Built in 1905, this total renovation was curated by the Designed Domicilio to preserve classic details and exude warmth within modernity. The 3-story brick home lives as a 4-bed / 3.5 bath owner's triplex above a separate, spacious one-bed, one-bath garden apartment. Four private outdoor vibes offer sundry hangs; a deck, a backyard, a terrace, and a fenced rooftop patio. With a practical layout that allows for flexibility, this townhome effortlessly accommodates the many moods and moments of Brooklyn living upon turning the key. A pristine, southerly facade invites you through the original vestibule and into the parlor. Enter through the living room where herringbone hardwood floors and an immaculately restored fireplace set the scene. Walk past the central staircase where your dining room awaits – anchored by a grand mirror – this original piece provides a unique turn-of-the-century character to any meal. Twin archways in exposed brick lead to a stunning kitchen replete with a Bertazzoni range, pot-filler, a marble island with counters to match, and plentiful storage. A door off of the kitchen beckons you onto an al-fresco deck with space enough for dining. Back inside and up the stairs a landing splits the steps in two. To the left, the primary bedroom with its own terrace hosts a large dressing room plus a beautifully finished en-suite bath with contemporary spa shower, soaking tub and dual basins. To the right, another bedroom which can easily be flexed into a home office. Continue to the third floor where an additional two large bedrooms – each with full washrooms, closets, and tons of light allow even more options. The owner’s triplex has its own access to a finished lower-level storage space and half bath. Entirely separate, and with its own private entryway, is a well appointed one-bedroom garden apartment with a patio and backyard access. This 2,510 square feet of house with 1200+ square feet of outdoor space is perched between both Clinton Hill & Prospect Heights making for a convenient and walkable locale, close to Prospect park and a breeze to anywhere in the city. Bedford Stuyvesant | Brooklyn

Quick Profile

Known for its historic brownstones and tight-knit enclave, Bed-Stuy has increasingly left behind its early reputation for being a “bedroom community” and transcended into a highly desirable neighborhood.

Distinct for its aesthetic, it is populated with ornate buildings characterized by cornices, friezes, finials, fluting and other marks of classic architecture. Built up during the period from 1870 to 1900, its historic district runs to the north of Jefferson Avenue, to the east of Malcolm X Boulevard and to the west of Tompkins Avenue.

At one point known as “Brooklyn’s Little Harlem,” the shape of the area has shifted toward attracting a wider demographic of people thanks to the influx of bars, restaurants, antique furniture stores and vintage boutiques. More police enforcement paired with the decline of the crack epidemic at the beginning of the 2000s also opened the door for increased development, as well as the occupation of formerly abandoned buildings and spaces.
