Property Description for 445 Lafayette Street, 6-B

A luxurious 2-bedroom/2 and a half bath residence, 445 Lafayette Street #6B is located in one of New York's most striking buildings, the Astor Place Tower, a sleekly sculptural design from the architectural firm of Gwathmey Siegel, celebrated for their additions to both the famed Solomon Guggenheim Museum and the Yale University Art & Architecture Building.

Opening into a spacious gallery, the floorplan reflects the sinuous nature of the building's fa ade, sweeping into a series of curvaceously framed spaces. A crisply proportioned open-plan chef's kitchen featuring Miele appliances with wine fridge, addresses an undulating living/dining space. Light floods the apartment through floor-to-ceiling windows while customized light fixtures by Baccarat and Verpan add a dash of glamour. The principal bedroom has a curved floor-to-ceiling window, a walk-in closet, and a beautifully detailed en-suite bath. The second bedroom has ample closet space and its own en-suite bath; a half-bath rounds out the floor plan. A Miele washer/dryer is included; paint finishes throughout are organic.

Fronting Astor Place, the convergence of the East Village and Noho, the building is surrounded in every direction by world-famous cultural and educational institutions, celebrated shopping, cafes, restaurants and nightlife - the Public Theater, the Cooper Union, NYU, Washington Square and St. Mark's Place are all adjacent with the Astor Place 6 Train directly across the street and the transit hub of Union Square only blocks away.Concierge, full-time doorman, live-in superintendent, on-site garage parking with direct access into the building, and a full gym are among the amenities. A chance to acquire a one-of-a-kind residence at the very heart of New York's most vibrant district.

Noho | Manhattan

Quick Profile

NoHo, an acronym for North of Houston, is a trendy neighborhood with expansive lofts, chic shops, and hip eateries. It was once part of Greenwich Village, but as New York City changes and coolness always redefines itself, the neighborhood, which is more like a small nook, has morphed into a happening secession of its own.

Like many New York City neighborhoods, the boundaries are subjective and the exact location always depends on who you ask. Generally, NoHo is understood to be bounded by East Eighth Street to the north, East Houston Street to the south, Bowery Street to the east (which becomes Cooper Square north of East Fourth Street), and Broadway to the west.

It’s hard to believe that NoHo was once a sketchy no-man’s land with more than its share of dilapidated structures. These gentrified days, it’s a healthy mix of older buildings, renovated warehouses and newer construction by iconic architects. For such a small area, NoHo has three historic districts that cover much of the neighborhood.

Broadway, Bowery, and Lafayette is the business district of the neighborhood. You’ll find it all in this neck of the woods. From trendy one of a kind retailers to popular brand stores. It rivals its SoHo neighbor in places to shop.

Architecture buffs get your walking shoes on. There are many historical and modern buildings throughout the neighborhood. Colonnade Row, the Cable Building, and the Schermerhorn Building are just a few of the many notable buildings you’ll find.
