Property Description for 19 West 12th Street, TH

Rare opportunity to rent a 25’-wide Gold Coast Greenwich Village Elevatored Townhouse!

19 W 12th Street is an elegant red brick single family townhouse, orginally build in 1845 in the Late Greek Revival Style. It measures 25 feet wide by 52 deep on a 106 foot lot – boasting 5 stories with 6,750 interior square feet, a 1,250sf excavated basement, plus 2,750 square feet of beautifully landscaped private garden, terrace, and finished rooftop deck.

The house has been completely renovated to the highest standard, maintaining the traditional architectural details of the house while adding contemporary finishes and systems throughout.

From the stoop level entrance, the parlor floor boasts a grand living and dining room with dramatic 12’9” ceilings, two fireplaces, a wet bar, and windowed powder room. The oversized windows facing South onto W 12th Street let in an abundance of southern light, while the glass wall of windows and doors off the northern dining room open up to a serene private terrace overlooking the garden below.

Downstairs, the garden level features an oversized chef’s kitchen and dining area in the rear, with floor-to-ceiling windows and doors leading out to the beautifully landscaped 41’ deep garden. The massive kitchen has state-of-the-art appliances which include Subzero refrigerator, two Miele ovens, two Gaggenau dishwashers, two warming drawers, a wine cooler, and professional-grade Wolf range. In addition, this level features a staff or guest suite with kitchenette and en-suite Bathroom, as well as and additional powder room.

The third floor of the home has a lovely bedroom with en-suite bathroom in the rear, along with a south-facing library with adjacent home office (easily convertible to an additional bedroom). There is another powder room accessible from the hallway. The fourth floor has two additional bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms.

The top floor is home to the incredible primary suite. The rear-facing oversized bedroom features a fireplace, along with north-facing skylights and a large customized walk-in closet which leads to the primary bath. The nearly 450sf primary bath is truly remarkable – spanning the entire 25’ width of the house. Clad in beautiful Italian Calacatta gold marble, it features a freestanding glass-enclosed shower, Dornbracht fixtures, enamel cast iron tub, fireplace, and radiant heated floors.

Above the primary suite, a stairway leads to a finished planted rooftop with spectacular views downtown all the way to One World Trade.

A 1,250sf excavated basement level offers extra storage, laundry, and refrigeration.

Additional conveniences include central air throughout the home, an elevator, and high-end media, lighting, and security systems. Pets permitted

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
