Property Description for 344 West 23rd Street, 4-D

Welcome to this roomy, sunlit home in The Cheyney, a sought-after, condominium located in the beating heart of Chelsea. This loft-like space combines stylish renovations, natural materials and one-of-a-kind touches to create a uniquely tranquil oasis in the city.

Recurring motifs of wood and marble connect this light-filled, open floor plan. Handmade cherry paneling, cabinets and built-ins are complemented by wood floors in the living areas and bedroom. The kitchen is adorned in wall-to-wall Italian marble with original Bauhaus-era tile insets, a style repeated in the marble-covered bath. Inviting you further into the home, the doorways and living area arches display beautiful, decorative casings, while the double doors to the bedroom are hand-carved Indian solid teak wood dating to the 18th century.

Arrive to the foyer and coat closet joining a luxurious, eat-in kitchen. Sleek marble countertops are offset by custom cherry cabinets and open display shelves. Top-of-the-line appliances, including SubZero refrigerator and Miele cooktop, oven and dishwasher, will please even the most discerning home chef.

In the spacious living room, massive southern exposures extend through a wall of windows and sliding glass doors, providing all-day sunlight and effortless access to your balcony overlooking neighborhood gardens and brownstones. A built-in desk with additional storage is perfect for working from home, making good use of the generous light and proportions of this space.

Retire to the king-sized bedroom, which features cherry-paneled walls and similar southern exposures, as well as a walk-in closet with custom built-in organizers. The full bathroom is adorned in marble and quality Grohe fixtures. An in-home laundry washer and dryer provide additional convenience.

Conveniently located in The Cheyney, a pet-friendly, boutique condominium with 44 units, with a furnished roof deck, live-in superintendent, and a part-time doorman on weekdays 8AM-12AM and weekends 8AM-2AM. Find many neighborhood mom and pop shops close by this popular Chelsea location, only one block from A, C, and E trains, and a short jaunt to the Highline, Citibike, Chelsea Arts District and Chelsea Piers, Whole Foods, and Trader Joes.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
