Property Description for 155 West 20th Street, 1-E

Discover exceptional value in this mint, fully renovated one-bedroom Chelsea residence featuring a dining area on a prime Chelsea block. No detail has been overlooked in the restoration of this expansive prewar home boasting South and West exposures. Designed by the world-renowned New York City architect, Horace Ginsbern, who was responsible for the Park Plaza Apartments, the first Art Deco building in the Bronx, this stylish and sophisticated home offers a sunken living room, 9-foot ceilings, city-windows, and ample closet space.

The tastefully renovated kitchen and bathroom, along with the convenience of an in-unit washer/dryer, make this a turnkey home, ready for you to move right in. This stunning prewar residence features 9-foot ceilings and an abundance of closet space. Referred to as a "Maisonette," this unique first-floor apartment is far from ordinary. Its entrance is accessed through a raised entry and hall from the main lobby, with the unit being recessed from the building front, providing a sense of exclusivity and privacy.

Built in 1938, the Chelsea Warren at 165 West 20th Street is an impeccably maintained cooperative, complete with a live-in super, three full-time porters, a common laundry room, bike storage, and additional storage rooms. Recent upgrades to the building include a meticulous renovation of the lobby and hallways (2020), a Local Law 11 exterior renovation (Spring 2021), and the completion of new sidewalks on 20th Street and 7th Avenue (2022). Enhancing the building's curb appeal, new tree pits, guardrails, and landscaping have been added along the 20th Street retaining walls this spring.

Situated on a quiet, tree-lined street in Chelsea, this hidden gem is adjacent to the vibrant Flatiron District and Village, and across from the newly established Chelsea Green Park. Experience the best of Chelsea living, surrounded by a diverse array of restaurants, specialty shops, markets (including Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Eataly), historic townhouses, iconic buildings, and inviting parks. Enjoy the added convenience of being near the High Line, Union Square, Madison Square Park, Penn Station, the West Village, and multiple subway lines for seamless urban living.

Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
