Property Description for 40 East 10th Street, 4-L

Move right in to this beautifully appointed home in one of the most desirable prewar co-op buildings in Greenwich Village. The generously proportioned living/dining room has classic 9 ft beamed ceilings, a stone gas burning fireplace, refinished oak floors and south facing casement windows flooded with light. Modern features include lighting suited for displaying art, and through wall a/c throughout. The windowed kitchen has been remodeled with custom cabinetry, stone countertops, Viking range and a Subzero refrigerator. The spacious bedroom has southern and eastern windows overlooking the back garden and is flanked by an en-suite windowed original bath in pristine condition. The entry foyer is large enough to be used as a guest room or office. There is a windowed powder room just off the kitchen.

40-50 East 10th Street, highly revered for its beautiful prewar design, was built in 1929 by Helme and Corbett Architects, whose projects include One Fifth Avenue and the Metropolitan Life North Building on Madison Square Park. Amenities include a beautifully landscaped roof terrace and back garden, a full-time doormen, a resident building manager, fitness center, children's playroom, laundry room, bike room, and storage. The lobby, hallways, and all landings have been recently renovated. The building is pet friendly.

Ideally situated between University and Broadway, this block is lined with mid-century modern furniture galleries, and home to the iconic Il Cantinori restaurant. There is a parking garage located next door, some of the city's best restaurants and shopping is nearby. Access to subways are only a few blocks away, bringing access to anywhere in the city.

Greenwich Village | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Birthplace of beatniks, Greenwich Village has always been a neighborhood bursting with creativity, home to artists, poets, musicians and writers. There is a lot of foot traffic in the neighborhood, as it gives convenient access to many other neighborhoods. There are a lot of popular eateries on MacDougal Street and bars on Bleecker Street. The neighborhood has a bit of a college-town feel, due to the presence of NYU. There aren’t large chain stores here, so it isn’t really a mecca for shopaholics, but you can find interesting vintage stores and specialty boutiques.

Available housing is centered on pre-war walk-ups. You can find good deals on the quieter, tree-lined side streets, as opposed to the bustling avenues. There are pockets of brownstones and townhouses, some dating back to the early 19th century, throughout the neighborhood, as well. You will find more luxurious housing in the newer high-rise buildings on Park and Fifth Avenues.

Washington Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. If you sit near the Arch and close your eyes, you might catch an echo of the music and social history of the Park, floating through the air. Greats like Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, and Paul Simon started their storied careers right here in Greenwich Village. Today, the Village is a celebration of diversity, where everyone is welcome.
